BSCkids recently got the chance to sit down with teen actress, pop singer, rapper, and dancer, Coco Jones. She spoke with us about her guest role on Disney’s “Good Luck Charlie,” and her debut single, “Holla at the DJ.” Jones is also getting ready to release her EP, “Made Of” on March 5th.
Coco Jones was first thrust into the spotlight when she was featured on Radio Disney’s “Next Big Thing”, or “N.B.T.”, starred in the Disney Channel movie Let It Shine. Her song, “Real You,” has been featured on-air on Radio Disney and is also available online at Radio Disney, along with her song “U B U.” She was later featured on the Shake It Up: Live 2 Dance soundtrack for the TV Series “Shake It Up,” performing the song “Don’t Push Me”, a feisty danced themed song, and “Whodunit” an upbeat dance song featuring Adam Hicks. She recently guest starred on the January 20th episode of “Good Luck Charlie” entitled “All Fall Down.”
BSCkids: Coco Jones
You recently guest started on “Good Luck Charlie,” can you tell about your role on the episode?
I play Kelsey, one of Teddy’s friends and volleyball teammates.
Do you share any similarities with your character from the guest role?
My character is very energetic and positive about everything, and I tend to have some of the same characteristics that she has. We both want everybody to be happy, and always find a way to look on the bright side.
Do you have any funny stories from the set?
I do! One time we had a break on set because production team had to go over something. While we were on the break, Bridget and Leigh-Ann started to sing a Salt-n-Pepa song, and it was so funny because they knew all of the words, were rapping, and had dance moves to go along with it. I was cracking up.
Did you get along with Bridgit Mendler and the other actors?
Of course! All of the actors were so sweet, and inviting, and the whole production team was great, too.
Had you seen “Good Luck Charlie” before getting the guest role?
Yes!! It one of my favorite shows! The best thing about it is the fact that its real life comedy, so I’m always laughing because I’ve totally gotten myself in to a lot of the same situations, and had some of the same scenarios play out in my house.
Any plans to guest star on any other shows coming up?
Recently, my main focus has been my EP, but now that it’s mastered, I’m going start getting back into some more acting.
Tell us about your newest single, “Holla at the DJ.” What was your inspiration for the song?
I had a lot of the inspiration while I was vacationing in the Bahamas, I went to this teen club and I kept waiting on the DJ to play a song for me, and after going up and asking him to play it, I decided that I should write a song about it.
Will your upcoming EP, releasing on March 5th, have an overall theme to it or will each of the tracks be stand alone singles?
I think both. The EP is called “Made Of,” so there is sort of a theme in that these songs are what I’m made of, and this is what I’m about, but they’re different enough to stand alone.
What will be the next track you plan to release?
I have another single to be released, but I don’t want to ruin the surprise. I’ll just say that everybody will really enjoy it, and I’m very excited for people to hear it.
What is your favorite television show airing right now?
Good question, there are so many! Good luck Charlie, Glee, and the Carrie diaries are a few of my current favorites.
Any advice for aspiring singers trying to make a name for themselves?
My advice is to always give 100% at everything you do, because you never know who might be watching.
