THE GAME OF LIFE: zAPPed Edition – Review

The kids absolutely LOVED this game. They found it so fun to be able to pick their job and all the different life events, how many kids they would have and all the other things that make The Game of Life fun. Now that it is integrated with the iPad (required) it connected even more with their generation.

At first I thought it would be a little more intuitive and handle more of the game for you. I am glad that it was not the case, because in the day of hit a button don’t do anything and just hit another button I have to say there was still plenty of “game” to be played. You still have to manage your money, move your car, and the best part of putting the people in the car is still in the game. What we get is videos that make the life events more captivating (my kids already have their favorite videos) and the spinner still works and sounds the same in the iPad version. The app was easy to download and then you place your iPad in the middle of the board and the game starts.

The ability to dress up your player pegs was also something that the kids really enjoyed. We even played a four player game where my wife joined myself and the two boys and everyone had a blast. It got the kids to count money (for my younger one this was a learning experience for him) as well as to understand a few things how living as an adult we have to pay taxes and get jobs and all of that great (groan) stuff. I felt the game was as much of a learning experience for them as it was fun.

There are multiple app spaces but the one where you have triplets has been a favorite of the kids, looks like we may have a big family in the future. At the end of the game, you have to count up your money, the iPad will help you, and make your choice where to retire and your money (score) is added up as you wait for everyone to finish the game. The Game of Life is always fun, because at the end of the day it almost (and I say almost) didn’t matter to the children who won, it was about the experience and decisions they got to make along the way. Who doesn’t want to pick the style of wedding and then see it acted out by your two pegs on the iPad? A definite winner in our book and bringing technology to an old favorite does not diminish the experience at all, it heightens it!

A family gaming experience like never before With THE GAME OF LIFE: zAPPed Edition, you can enjoy a whole new way to play! Add your iPad to the unique game board for a truly interactive family experience. The free app brings your game to life as you move around the board. You still get to move your car from space to space and select your path to retirement, but now you spin, get paid, sue other players and make important decisions all on your iPad. Don’t want to be just a plain peg? Go ahead and customize your peg character and add a peg-sessory!

Quick to set up, easy to play No assembly necessary! Just download the free app, hand out cars and cash, place your iPad on the board and you’re ready to go. Just follow the on-screen instructions and move your car around the board.

Damon Cap: Have three kids, two boys (18 and 16) and a girl (12). I had a grandfather that watched cartoons and read the Sunday funnies until he passed. I feel the same way and continue to watch the Disney channel in my 40s. Check out our BSCKids youtube channel Current favorite show is Amphibia.
