This week’s episode of Terra Nova, called “Instinct” aired on October 3rd, 2011. I don’t know if this is just me, but I STILL find that this show is a little boring? I mean its action scenes are well done, and the CG is phenomenal, but the story line is still to undeveloped for me.
I think that maybe if they spent more time developing reasons for viewers to keep watching each week, instead of focusing so much of fantastical CG’ed scenes, it would be better.
Either way, this episode started off with Elisabeth’s old boyfriend returning. It is revealed that he is the reason she got recruited to Terra Nova. Of course Jim gets jealous and I say that it is rightfully so. It’s hard to be ok with your current spouse/boyfriend/girlfriend to work closely with their former flame. I think Elisabeth didn’t handle it well. She should have been more understanding instead of just shrugging it off.
Also, someone’s face was eaten off by crazy bird dinosaur thing! It was crazy. And gross.
Josh is not way cooler. He can sing… and plays the guitar in this episode. I think its great that this characterization was added. He needed more depth and being a kid who loves music is cool but actually being able to play and sing makes it that much better. I kinda hope he plays more in upcoming episodes or maybe forms another band in Terra Nova.
Josh also FINALLY mentions his old girlfriend. I really thought it was weird that he loved her so much before Terra Nova, but hardly brought her up to everyone till now. I know its partly because he has a crush on Skye but it seemed wrong to not bring up the old girlfriend.
Also I really hope Maddy and Reynolds date soon, they are too cute! It was really cute when she asked Jim for some fatherly advice about boys.
Those little bird dinosaur things, are freaking scary. They are tiny and can get into anywhere! Also they can eat your face off! Even worse is that they laid eggs for so many more generations to be born. I hope that the scientists are right and they migrate away from where Terra Nova is.
Overall I think the show still hasn’t reached its happy medium of entertainment and action. I think its kinda like only the middle part of a book, not enough exposition and resolution, and plenty of action sequences. Although, based on previews for next week’s episode, there seems to promise for some great episodes on the horizon.
