Selk’bag 4G Lite Sleepwear System – Review

When the Selk’bag 4G Lite Sleepwear arrived, the temperature took a turn for the worse, and it became 80 degrees in late September. The boys would have sweat right through the Selk’bag in that weather, and boy were they disappointed. They had been super excited once they heard about the product. Well, the weather did finally get colder, and we were able to test them out.

The Selk’bag is a quality product. After taking them out of the bag, I was impressed by not only the stitching but also just the overall feel and design of the product; they have not scrimped in any department. Need to use your hands? No problem–Selk’bag has you covered with the ability to peak your hands out to do things like get a snack and drink before dinner. It also allowed the boys to play a little Nintendo DS before they fell asleep. Not to worry, though, the Selk’bag is not drafty at all; they really have thought about this in the design. You can cover yourself up and really keep that cold out even while using your hands. Also, I thought that the garment would be something that would be difficult to get onto the boys, but I let them have it by themselves, figuring I would need to step in for something. That was not the case, because they had the Selk’bag on and zipped quite quickly. Now, we would really put it to the test: would they sleep with it on all night, or would they call us in the middle of the night to get it off?

Our younger son decided he had to take a potty break at about 3 o’clock in the morning and did a little sleep walking up the stairs to the bathroom, where we helped him out. No problems navigating the stairs, because the Selk’bag has slip resistant pads on the bottom of the feet. This was very helpful to keep the kids from slipping all around the place. The zipper is also top-notch, so that when you need to get it open rather quickly, it is happy to oblidge you. The boys made it through the night with no issues, and when they woke up in the morning they even decided to keep them on for a while so they could wake up in the warmth of the product. I do hope we can hear from someone who has washed them, though; while we have not had the need yet, I am sure at some point this will become something we need to do, either from an accident or from just normal wear.

The Selk’bag is a very high quality product that I can see having many different uses. If you have kids that camp, this would be perfect, but how about kids that just like to sleep in something really fun? Yup, you have them covered, as well. How about playing astronaut? Also a pretty awesome use for the Selk’bag, and I can imagine you would be the coolest kid ever at a sleepover. Once the weather really turns cold, I can see the boys getting out of bed and leaving the Selk’bag on while they watch cartoons on a Saturday morning. And how about being able to wake up for the holidays already wrapped up in a Selk’bag? I know, it sounds quite cozy, doesn’t it? This is something to put on the holiday list, and while you are at it, parents, they do have your size, as well. The claim that it will fit back into the bag it came in without much of a hassle sounds too good to be true, yet it really is the case. Easy storage or easy transport, whatever the case may be.

You can see some pictures below of my older son and a video of both of them. Yes, we let them sleep in those huge boxes as a sort of camping trip in the living room!

The boys were very soft spoken for this video, and that is after like 20 takes with them, so this is the best we are going to get, but I can tell you they had a blast with the product and will continue to enjoy them for a while.
