How to Be the Best Bubblewriter in the World, Ever! by Linda Scott came our way at the most appropriate time for our boys. We are at the time in their lives when they just LOVE making homemade birthday and holiday cards for family and friends. That means that while they are doing that, sometimes I would take some paper and start doing some bubble letters for fun, while they created their cards. Well my 7-year-old was intrigued by these bubble letters and asked me if I could create cooler letters than the simple block type style I was doing. Not being an artist at all, I had to tell him that was the extent of my skills in the world of bubble writing. But Laurence King Publishing decided to help my children out by sending us a copy of How to Be the Best Bubblewriter in the World, Ever! by Linda Scott. My boy is eating this up with a spoon as he continues to look, examine and try to replicate all of the awesome types of bubble letters this book shows.
Let me explain what this book is not: it is not a step by step instruction book on each set of bubble letter alphabets, and I appreciate the fact that it is not. It allows the kids to actually learn the art of bubble writing rather than just following some instructions. That being said, Linda does lay a good foundation in the first few pages for the aspiring bubble writer. Not only do you get instruction on the letters, but there are also different kinds of activities like making bookmarks, door knob hanging signs, stories, and the ability to do a lot of your own work based on your imagination. Linda leaves you all sorts of pages in the book for your own projects! This is one of those books that actually should start showing up in art classes in the school system; I think it would be a perfect fit.
The only real issue I had with the book was that the binding is a little cheap. I had expected for a book like this that cover and binding would be top-notch. The thing is, though, maybe this is supposed to be more of a workbook than an actual book, but in my house I see it as more of a encylopedia of awesome bubble writing that needs to be protected at all costs.
This is a must buy for that aspiring artist or someone just looking to have some fun with some lettering of cards and pictures. Just for the record, Snowman was my favorite bubble alphabet, and my older son had so many favorites he really could not decide.
How to Be the Best Bubblewriter in the World, Ever! shows you how to create your own hand-drawn alphabets.
