It looks like Lady Gaga is facing some stiff competition in the music charts. Lady Gaga’s Born This Way which is just in its third week on the Billboard 200 and already it has been upset by Adele’s 21.
This returns Adele’s 21 to the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 list and 21 is is the first to rank #1 this late in the chart run since Taylor Swift’s Fearless which was #1 in its 16th week in March 2009. Two weeks ago Lady Gaga posted the biggest one week sales tally since 2005. But now the album is being charged at regular price sales of her album Born This Way have dropped off by 84% and it is the biggest sales drop off of any of the 17 albums to sell 1 million copies in a week. Adele, meanwhile has had consistent sales since her album was released and just when sales were starting to soften Rolling In The Deep became a monster hit and helped keep the pace. This song is expected to top the Hot 100 for the sixth straight week.
This is 10th week that Adele’s album is at #1 which is the longest run since Fearless and is the longest run at #1 for an album by a British artist since George Michael’s Faith. Has Lady Gaga lost her groove? What do you think of Adele being back at #1?
