Welcome To The Wayne, the first episode, Season 1, Episode 1 called Rise and Shine Sleepyhead is on the Nick App as well as the Nickelodeon website for you to watch before it comes to television on Monday, July 24th at 5:30 p.m.
Ever since Gravity Falls ended, our whole family had been chasing the ever elusive cartoon mystery series that would replace it and we have come away with a whole lot of nothing. We were very excited to see the first episode of Welcome To The Wayne and we have come away with a lot of potential and excitement on who this is going to turn out.
To start we have Billy Lopez and Michael Pecoriello working on this 20 episode series that follows Ansi Molina, Olly and Sara Timbers as they try to unlock what is going on at the Wayne apartment building. The first episode called “Rise and Shine Sleepyhead” introduces us to Ansi as he becomes a new resident of the Wayne and shows him working with Olly and Sara to stop this monster that is in the Wayne.
Not only do we get introduced to Sleepyhead, who is the monster terrorizing The Wayne, but are also introduced to the squid like creatures that bring Ansi to the library of the Wayne through a secret mirror. This library, called the Stanza is a wonderful place, with a lot of interesting information on The Wayne and its inhabitants. What would a show be without a villain, and we are also meet The Spy from Apartment 8i, who is involved in Sleepyhead’s rampage. She tells her henchman, “whoever controls The Wayne, controls the world” and it seems this is going to be a huge part of our 20 episode series. There is also a professor that Sara seeks help from, but we do not find out a lot about him in the first episode.
Lots to love about this show for me, the first being that it has a set ending of 20 episodes, and what that usually means, especially in cartoon form, is we get a story that already has an ending in store for it. The characters are great with Olly and Sara having some fun and interesting gadgets to help solve the mystery of The Wayne and once Ansi found the library I knew we had a good show on our hands. The show was on my radar as something that would be great to watch, and now after seeing the first episode I am even more excited. We have a lot of introductions in “Rise and Shine Sleepyhead”, but we also have monsters and the start of a great overall mystery.
You can watch the trailer below and make sure to go check out the first episode on the app and let us know if you are as excited as we are for Welcome To The Wayne.
