BSCKids gets a chance to talk to L2M about a whole bunch of different things, from LEGO Friends Sets, YouTube to some of their embarrassing moments while filming. A great interview with lots of information so let us get started:
The all-access series follows the girls (L2M) – Mariangeli, McKenzie, Lexi, Tati, and Jenna – as they attend “Pop Star Summer Camp” and find out what it takes to become a successful pop group, including vocal training and dance rehearsals, and showing fans what they’ve learned. Viewers will go behind the scenes and see the girls develop their singing, dance moves, and on-stage style at their exclusive two-week band camp all the way to their first live performance in front of brand new fans in Los Angeles. As Mariangeli says: “Because if we can do it, you can do it too!”
The bond between the members of L2M bubbles up in their music, inspiring an infectious and irresistible energy. They instantly clicked and formed that forever bond upon meeting up to work on their debut single “Girlz” for the 2016 LEGO® Friends movie Girlz 4 Life.
Tell us a bit about the girl group L2M and describe yourself in ten words or less?
McKenzie: L2M is a pop girl band that’s all about empowerment, confidence, being yourself, and loving who you are! We want to inspire kids, and adults and let them know they can do anything they put their minds to with hard work and dedication. I am energetic, talkative, spunky, funny, passionate, adventurous, and very ambitious!
Jenna: L2M is a young pop group that is focused on being good examples to young kids and inspiring others to reach for their dreams…because if we (5 normal girls) can do it…so can you!! — I would say I am competitive, quirky, kind, and caring.
Tati: L2M is a 5 girl pop group who love to perform and make music that is inspiring, powerful, and full of positive energy, I am very outgoing, energetic, nice, and a friend of everyone!
Lexis: L2M is a girl pop group with 5 besties who are edgy, loving, energetic and super fun! 10 words that describe me: cool, loving, down to earth, stylish, edgy, creative, strong, Sagittarius, fun, smart
Mariangeli: L2M is a motivational and empowering pop group made up of five best friends. I love spending time with friends and pursuing the arts.
Was the first time you met while you worked on the single “Girlz” for the 2016 Lego Friends movie Girlz 4 Life?
McKenzie: Yes we met when we worked on our single “Girlz” and we just instantly clicked and became sisters and best friends!
Jenna: No, most of us met at the final audition.
Tati: Yes it was
Lexis: Actually, I met a couple of the girls at the final audition and we all loved each other! We had even made an inside joke that day!
Mariangeli: No, the first time we all came together was during a month long trip to LA. We stayed in a house together and had sooo much fun!
What was it like when you heard your song for the first time?
McKenzie: It was literally the best feeling ever, and it was so cool to hear me and the girls voices in the song and just how great it sounded!
Jenna: Oh my gosh…it was amazing and completely surreal! I couldn’t believe it!!
Tati: It was so cool to hear our song for the first time cause it shows your hard work and it’s so cool to hear yourself, especially when it’s doing something that you love and that you are so passionate about
Lexis: The first time I heard Girlz, it was a total surreal moment. And actually every time I hear one of our songs it makes me proud and of course super happy!
Mariangeli: It was an amazing feeling because we were able to see how all the hard work and effort that we put in paid off. And also how we sang and meshed together as a group.
What would you say is your favorite LEGO Friends playset?
McKenzie: My favorite LEGO Friends playset would have to be the Pop Star Show Stage set because the stage is so cool and its super fun to build!
Jenna: The Heartlake Mall!
Tati: The Emma Ice Cream Shop
Lexis: My favorite LEGO Friends play set is the Stage set. Because in real life, it’s my most favorite place to be!
Mariangeli: Probably the recording studio playset featuring Olivia because it reminds me of all the fun times we’ve had together
Tell us a bit about your brand new web series-L2M pop Shop- via Youtube. Do you think you watch more hours of Cable TV or Youtube these days?
McKenzie: Our new YouTube series is going to be awesome and partnering with Miss O And Friends is a wonderful opportunity and our messages to the world are similar. The L2M PopShop gives up the chance to share our journey with all of our fans and lets them get to see what we do on a daily basis.
I definitely watch YouTube way more than cable because I have scheduled videos on certain days that I tune in to watch. I personally like YouTube better because its so fun to watch and learn stuff from different types of videos.
Jenna: We spent dayssss doing video interviews and stuff. It was so much fun!! We just got to be ourselves and let people see what we do behind the scenes. — I definitely watch YouTube way more than cable TV.
Tati: Our L2M PopShop series is just about our journey and allowing people to follow it with us! I watch cable TV more
Lexis: L2M pop shop gives you glimpse of our journey, and our L2M summer camp!! We show our audience our favorite tips and tricks in dancing, performing, singing, and fashion! And as a bonus, you get to know us better! And I am always on YouTube! I definitely am watching YouTube way more than I am cable TV!
Mariangeli: The L2M Pop Shop is kind of like a guide on becoming a performer. Viewers get to join us on our journey as we become a pop group. I tend to watch a ton of YouTube and not so much cable TV, but I do watch many TV shows using online apps. So I guess you could say I’m of an overall mobile entertainment girl.
What would you say you find harder the vocal training or the dance rehearsals and why?
McKenzie: I think that dance rehearsals are a little harder because we have to pick up all the dance movements and just dancing and staying together in sync as a group is difficult at times.
Jenna: I would say dance rehearsals, because a lot of times we are dancing and singing at the same time, but I work very hard at both!
Tati: The vocal training, because I have been trained in dancing since I was 2 and I am now professional at it and singing, I just started about a year ago (actually training in it) so it is new to me.
Mariangeli: Probably the dance rehearsals only because there is way more physical involvement. And also because I personally feel more “in my element” during vocal training. But both activities are super fun for me and I enjoy taking part in them.
What are some funny things that have happened while filming L2M PopShop? What would you say are the most embarrassing?
McKenzie: Well during the filming there are always funny moments whether its Jenna having a brain fart or one of us making silly faces or breaking out in random dances and making up crazy words and sounds. I really don’t think any of it is embarrassing we just like to have fun and enjoy ourselves.
Jenna: Well, so many funny things and bloopers happened but one thing I remember is that in the middle of a bunch of our interviews we kept getting attacked by bees! We would all just swat at them, scream and run…which was probably not the best thing to do. — The most embarrassing moment was being caught with my mouth wide open while listening to McKenzie talk.
Tati: All of our inside jokes are always funny while filming but the funniest thing that happened while making an episode was when we all cooked our own grilled cheese and I went to put mine in the plate and I dropped it on the floor and it was really funny so they put it in an episode, the most embarrassing moment was probably when I got stung by a bee when they were filming and you could see that I was in some pain but luckily they didn’t put that in an episode haha.
Lexis: The most embarrassing thing that happened to me during the filming of L2M Pop shop was when we were making our jackets outside and there were a lot of bees everywhere and I kept running away from then and screaming every time I saw one!!
Mariangeli: I think the errors that we make during filming are found the funniest. Whether someone messes up a sentence or a move, we all just take a good laugh about it. I think the most embarrassing thing that has happened while filming was us running from bees. In the area that we were filming there were always tons of bees swarming around, and I think our reactions to them were pretty hysterical.
How do you think L2M PopShop can help future artists?
McKenzie: It will help future artists to see the hard work and dedication that goes into being in a band. They will be able to see what it takes to make their dreams come true just like us!
Jenna: We give different tips so future artists can learn a lot about vocals, dance, stage presence, fashion and that it takes a lot of hard work to be an artist!
Tati: L2M Pop Shop can help future artists because it shows how we train and what we do to train and some of it is literally step by step so people can learn from that.
Mariangeli: I think it can help future artists realize that their dreams are not impossible to conquer. We’re just ordinary girls from normal lives that have worked so hard to have made it this far. So I definitely think it’ll be good motivation for them to reach their goals.
If you could collaborate with any artist who would it be and why?
McKenzie: I would love to collaborate with Beyonce and Tori Kelly. Beyonce is such an amazing performer and she has done so much in her career and I admire her determination. Tori Kelly because she is one of my favorite artists and I love all her music and she makes you feel her music when she sings.
Jenna: If you could collaborate with any artist who would it be and why. Justin Bieber, Meghan Trainor, and/or Tori Kelly… I love all of their music, styles and personalities.
Tati: Justin Bieber because he is my all time favorite artist and person lol and because I have been listening to his music since day 1 and I think he has an amazing voice and can put on a great show
Lexis: If I could collaborate with any artist, it would be Alessia Cara because she sends a really positive message through her music and is an amazing singer! But I would also absolutely love to collaborate with Cher Lloyd! She is my all time fave and has a super cool style with her music.
Mariangeli: I would probably choose Jordan Fisher because he’s a new artist, I’m a big fan of his music, and he’s just an overall amazing person. I don’t think I have ever met anyone as sweet and empowering as him.
Tell everyone why they should be tuning in to your YouTube channel and listening to your music?
McKenzie: Everyone should tune into our YouTube channel to get to know L2M better and see our amazing journey! Everyone should also listen to our music because its positive, uplifting, and will have you off your feet dancing!
Jenna: I think they should tune in and listen because L2M is a young group that is fun, entertaining, inspiring and age appropriate. There are definitely not many groups out there right now with appropriate music for young kids.
Tati: I think everyone should tune into our YouTube and listen to our music because we work hard just to inspire people and make people smile, our message is to be yourself no matter what “be who you are, ya that’s the motto” and because we want people to love us and follow our journey so we can feel connected and make more music along the way and do concerts and tours because that is our dream.
Lexis: because… L2M is AWESOME!! I think our music and overall message is very inspiring and I would love to share that with everyone! we also have a lot of videos where you can get to know us better, and get a behind the scenes peek at our journey together! follow us, we are just getting started!!
Mariangeli: I think that our music is new, different, and exciting. And definitely something parents will love to share with their kids. Therefore, you should totally tune into our youtube channel to check out our new and upcoming progressions, funny and cool behind the scenes, and just an overall great group of girls.
