Divergent, the YA novel that is currently being filmed for a big screen adaptation, will soon be joined by it novel sequel, “Insurgent.”
Insurgent is the second book in Veronica Roth’s hit series and will be hitting the big screen on March 21, 2014 according to Deadline. That’s not the only good news. Summit has given Brian Duffield the task of writing the script for the fim. He previously wrote Jane Got a Gun starring Natalie Portman and Ewan McGregor. The second film continues the journey of Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) as war now looms. Sides will be chosen, secrets will emerge, and Tris will risk everything as she struggles to harness her incredible power. The news that a script for the second film is underway means that Summit is betting big on the first film to bring in the big bucks.
Divergent is set in the distant future set within a dystopian version of Chicago. It follows sixteen-year-old Beatrice Prior was born into an Abnegation family, but selflessness has never come naturally to her. When the time comes for Beatrice to take her aptitude test, the results are surprising: she doesn’t fit neatly into any one faction; rather, she shows equal aptitude for three—Abnegation, Erudite and Dauntless. She is told she is therefore Divergent and is warned never to share this information with anyone. The book is seen to be similar to The Hunger Games. Are you excited for the movie?
