Nickelodeon Announces Dora and Friends: Into the City

Nickelodeon cannot get enough of Dora the Explorer and her friends. They just announced a new spin-off cartoon series called Dora and Friends: Into the City. The series will revolve around her, her friends and the city life. The series will have 20 episodes in the first season and will premier in 2014. The show will fast forward her age to 10 years old and she with her friends will be teaching important social lessons as well as Spanish to older kids. Here is the full announcement that Nickelodeon made in regards of the TV series.

Dora and Friends: Into the City stars Latina heroine Dora as a 10-year-old who goes on city adventures with a group of new friends. Fantastical twists and turns abound as the stories take Dora and her friends into exotic magical worlds waiting to be explored. Dora and Friends features a curriculum that fosters a child’s understanding of Spanish, teamwork, music and community service.

It sounds like another hit in the making. I am sure the fans of the series will be delighted to know that she will have a full, new set of adventures for kids to grow up to. I personally would love to see some new animated series, but I suppose they have to stick with what they know will work. Maybe they pull a PBS Kids and do a spin-off on SpongeBob Squarepants next? That has been one of their longest running series and I think that if they can keep it going strong this long, then they can keep a spin-off of it going on as well.

Do you like the concept? It is a solid one, but at the same time over done. How many spin-offs do they have already of Dora the Explorer? At least a couple if I am I counting correctly, and while that isn’t bad I would think parents would like a break for their kids. Give something else that is educational and fun to watch, not the same story told over and over again. Give the kids, cast and production team a break at last after a long time in service of offering talent and entertainment.
