One Direction Artist of the Year
One Direction has had a crazy year, in a good way of course. Winning awards, selling out of twp tours and releasing their second album has filled them with joy. But they have also had their fair share of ups and downs, which means this year has truly been all about them. Perhaps that is why MTV decided to rightfully name the UK imports as the “Artist of the Year”? Yes, the band was awarded the title, which they found themselves to be honored over. They beat the likes of Taylor Swift, Psy and Carly Rae Jepsen (who oddly enough won “Song of the Year” honor), who all were just as worthy as they were to be up for it. As for what the band thought of winning the title, here is the statement that they released.
Louis Tomlinson shared-
Artist of the Year, it is an absolute honor. We’ve had an amazing year and this is the icing on the cake, so thank you so much,
Harry Styles added the following-
We want to thank you, MTV for all your support. And a massive thank you to all the fans. This wouldn’t be possible without you, so thank you once again. This is amazing and we’ll see you soon
Not bad for the guys at all! It seems like they are very much on their way for more success next year, perhaps headed for even more so than past year. It only seemed to make sense for them to be given the title, even if they didn’t have what MTV considered to be the best song of the year. I don’t think that lessen their honor at all when you consider how many acts they beat out of this honor. They have quickly rose to the top shortly after being introduced and I think that is enough proof of what a powerhouse of a band they can be.
Do you think One Direction deserved the title? I do, even if I am not a fan per se. They worked very hard to reach this point and they did it in record amount of time. If that doesn’t scream artist of the year worthy, than I do not know what would. I don’t think it really is a matter of like or dislike in there case, it is more about how much they put in this year. I don’t think any act can top off that in 2012 no matter how you slice and dice the issue.
