Divergent Casting Update & The Mortal Instruments Trailer

By on November 18, 2012

Movie studios have been in love with book franchises ever since a few have had success, so it comes as no surprise that two big franchises are in the works for films. The first one is Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, which stars Lily Collins and Robert Sheehan’s trailer. MTV has debuted the first trailer for the movie, which is a modern fantasy tale. The movie is set to premier on August 23, 2013-which is a long ways from now, but the studio is clearly trying to drum up interest for. As for what the movie will be about, it will feature six teens who are part of a secret demon hunting group, which starts off with Clary Fray finding out the truth and going to demon hunting school. You can catch the trailer down below for a more closer look at the film.

As for the other next big franchise, Veronica Roth’s Divergent we have some casting news of sorts. We all now know that Shailene Woodley will play Tris, but now the battle is up for the character Tobias “Four” Eaton. Summit Entertainment is reported to be considering Luke Bracey, Lucas Tills, Jake Raynor and Brenton Thwaites for the role. All four of the guys being considered do not fit the description of Four, but we all know that can be taken care of with a quick dye job. Right now Summit has remained mum on if any of these guys have a real chance at winning the role, but so far it appears all guys are being considered for it. Since the film is slated for a March 21, 2014, we can assume casting should not last too much longer. As for what Divergent is about, it is similar to The Hunger Games with a dystopian nation that has their citizens pitted against each other. Tris must choose which side she belongs on, even though she is not suited for just 1.

Whew, that is lot a going on in terms of movie franchises. I am still surprised that movie studios are vying for the next big franchise. I would assume after more misses than hits, they would slow down a little bit. Plus Summit is owned by Lionsgate, they technically have The Hunger Games going on right now. So I do not see the rush for Divergent. As for Screen Gems, I can see why they would want a piece of the pie and they have been working hard for it to happen. So I am hoping that they do find success with The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.

How do you feel about all of this news? I think it can become a bit confusing for those who do not follow those series, but it is also exciting for the stars who join them. Lily Collins might have another hit on her hands before long, while Summit has to pick the right actor to fill in those big shoes. As a whole, I do have hope for both films to succeed, but right now it looks like The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones is winning due to it being set for release next summer.
