The Top 40 Things You Didn’t Know About Twilight and It’s Cast

You’ve either read the books, or seen the movies, or maybe even both! But how much do you Twi-hard fans really know about Twilight and it’s cast? We run down the top 40 things you didn’t know about the cult hit.
- Before the actual cast was chosen, author Stephenie Meyer already had an idea of who she wanted to play the main roles. This included Emily Browning as Bella Swan, Henry Cavill as Edward Cullen, Charlie Hunnam as Carlisle Cullen, Mary-Louise Parker as Esme Cullen, Rachael Leigh Cook as Alice Cullen, Trent Ford as Jasper Hale, and Olivia Wilde as Rosalie Hale.
- Bella Swan, played by Kristen Stewart, is the first character to appear in the film.
- Instead of being an actor, Robert Pattinson wanted to be a political speech writer. I think we are all relieved he chose otherwise!
- During filming of the first movie, author, Stephenie Meyer, and director, Catherine Hardwicke, developed a very close relationship. Hardwicke was determined to create a film that was as true to the novel as possible, so if any changes were needed she promptly called Stephenie to inform her.
- Getting Nikki Reed’s naturally dark brown hair the correct shade of blonde took 36 hours.
- Originally from London, Twilight was Robert Pattinson’s first American role. He had no formal training to hone that american accent.
- Kristen Stewart had never read the series before landing the part.
- Likewise, Robert Pattinson hadn’t even heard of the Twilight novels prior to turning up for the casting, and he only agreed to attend the casting as he had loved Kristen Stewart’s performance in Into The Wild.
- Stephenie Meyer states on her website (www.stepheniemeyer.com) that the idea for Twilight came to her in a dream. The stay-at-home mum dreamed the scene with Bella and Edward in the woods, so wrote that scene the next day followed by the rest of Twilight, and then went back and filled in the beginning. Meyer also once said that her two favorite bands, Linkin Park and Muse, inspired her to write the books.
- Kristen Stewart doesn’t actually have brown eyes like you see when she plays Bella. She wore brown contacts during filming as her natural eye color is green.
- Pattinson was asked to get braces to straighten his teeth for the movie (he didn’t).
- MTV originally owned the rights to make the film, but after scripting difficulties, MTV dropped the project and it was picked up by Summit Entertainment.
- Despite being a paparazzi fav, Robert Pattinson doesn’t actually like to have his picture taken.
- Bella Swan’s middle name is Marie.
- In Twilight, when Bella wakes up in the hospital after the fight with James and she is talking with her mother about her injuries, the TV in the background is playing a montage of the previous fight scene in the ballet studio.
- Obviously a big softie at heart, Robert Pattinson favorite thing to do in his spare time is read, and he has also confessed to crying sometimes when he listens to music.
- Nikki Reed and Jason Rathborne both had to learn how to play baseball left-handed for the baseball scene in the first film.
- In the ballet studio fight scene, honey and chicken were used to mimic human flesh!
- Robert Pattinson underwent a strict diet and exercise routine before shooting started. He worked out with a trainer five hours a day and learnt to fight, play basketball, and do a variety of stunts. As soon as they had filmed Edward and Bella’s love scene, Rob stopped the intense diet and exercise.
- Pattinson wasn’t the only one who had to up his workout regime; New Moon’s wolf pack went on “wolf camp” together so they could bulk up and bond with each other at the same time.
- Just before Jacob kisses Bella in New Moon he speaks to her in Quileute. Director Chris Weitz stated that the phrase means “stay with me forever”.
- Bella’s blue prom dress only cost $20!
- In the scene where Edward first enters the school cafeteria, the voice singing in the song being played is actually Robert Pattinson’s sister Lizzy.
- The wardrobe and set design for the Cullen’s world is based on the colors of an Arctic wolf.

- There were doubts surrounding whether Taylor Lautner would be able to reprise his role as Jacob in New Moon, but he proved all his critics wrong when he put on 12 kg of pure muscle mass just in time for filming.

- In the film Eclipse, actress Bryce Dallas Howard replaced Rachelle Lefevre who was originally cast to play Victoria. Dallas Howard was originally offered the role but she initially turned it down as she felt the part was too small.
- The wedding dress that Kristen Stewart wore in the film has been nearly identically replicated by wedding dress designer, Alfred Angelo, for his “Twilight bridal” collection. You can buy the dress online for $799.
- Kristen Stewart is the youngest child, and only girl in a family full of brothers.
- When he was young, Robert Pattinson was obsessed with actor Jack Nicholson.
- Before becoming an actor, Taylor Lautner was a serious martial arts enthusiast. He won several American and international karate tournaments, and had three Junior World Championships under his black belt before he was even 12.
- During the wedding scene, Stephenie Meyer (author) makes a cameo appearance as one of the wedding guests. Other “guests” included two of the producers and screenwriter, Melissa Rosenberg.
- The famous honeymoon scene was partially shot on a busy street in Rio de Janeiro, but manic Twilight fans packed on to the streets to get a glimpse at the stars, so the production company paid individuals between $30 and $300 to stay at home and not look out their windows if they overlook the shooting location.
- During the honeymoon, Pattinson is supposed to portray Edward as being an expert at driving a boat while they are in Rio. Despite taking boat driving lessons before shooting began, he still crashed the boat several times during filming!
- Breaking Dawn had a much higher budget than the previous films in the series, however much of the film was shot in Louisiana for tax credit purposes. Both parts of Breaking Dawn were shot back-to-back as one project.
- Writer of the series, Stephenie Meyer, once stated that she could be interested in directing the last of her book series.
- The two official Twilight trailers have been viewed over 15 million times between Youtube, MySpace, and other online sources.
- The latest Twilight flick was nominated for “Movie of the Year” and also for “Best Kiss” at this year’s MTV Movie Awards.
- Twilight is the fifth most-searched movie on the internet, according to IMDbPro’s Moviemeter.
