Pop Singer Camryn Talks Her Career and One Direction – Interview
BSCkids recently got the chance to talk with rising pop singer, Camryn. She spoke with us about her recent tour with One Direction and her life as a young performer in the music industry.
Camryn, recently named Billboard’s “Bubbling Under” artist to watch, has already toured with world famous group One Direction for their “Up All Night” tour as well as Greyson Chance and Cody Simpson. She has just released her lyric video for her current single, “Now or Never,” which is currently available on iTunes. Camryn will also be beginning her first headlining west coast tour which begins on 9/27. The tour will bring in a new era of Warped Tour-esque festivals by teaming up with High School Nation to help support music & arts in the classrooms. ‘The Rocket Summer’ will be the tour support they’ll be making stops in major markets all across Southern California. The goal is to take over High School football fields and transform it into a mini-festival for the students. At the end of the event, each school will receive a $5,000 donation to help assist with keeping the art programs as part of a regular curriculum.
BSCkids: Camryn
When did you know you wanted to turn your love for music into a career?
It wasn’t something that I really had to think about. Like every little kid I dreamed of being a famous singer and when I entered my first talent show when I was 8 I knew it for sure.
How supportive has your family been about your music career?
My family has always been there for from the beginning. They always are there for me and I’m really blessed that they are so supportive.
What was your favorite part about touring with One Direction?
My favorite part about touring with one direction was performing. They were the biggest crowds I had ever played too and it was so scary and so amazing at the same time!
Do you have any funny stories from the tour?
When I was performing in las vegas I usually say “what’s up (where ever we are)” and the night before I was in San Diego so I said “what’s up San Diego!” instead of saying what’s up las Vegas! I was laughing so hard I could barely sing that was super funny and a great story to tell!
What has been your favorite place to perform so far?
I really love to perform in Texas! They are usually very welcoming when I perform and they are always dancing and jumping! It’s just been a good experience every time I’m there!
Tell us about “Now or Never.” What inspired you to write it?
Now or never is a very fun and dance type song. It’s about forbidden love and then saying now is the time to do something so let’s not hesitate!
Do you still get nervous performing onstage?
I ALWAYS get nervous before performing! I like getting nervous because it gives me that extra rush of energy when I’m actually performing!
Do your friends treat you differently since you’ve become more well-known in the music industry?
Finding good friends is hard just because you never really know if they like you for who you are or what you do for your career. I have realized that I’m always going to find people like that so I just have to watch my back.
Tell us a little about your headlining tour that starts on 9/27.
It’s a high school tour so we go to different high schools and perform for them. It’s so different from arena shows and it’s always a different reaction!
If you could perform with anyone who would it be?
I’m not sure who I would want to perform with because i want to perform with so many different artists! If I had to choose I would love to perform with Avril lavigne!
Are there any movies or television shows you are excited about this year?
I’m really excited for “New Girl!!!” I loved the first season so I was really excited to find out when it was coming back! As far as movies go I’m excited to see The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
