One Direction’s Liam Payne: I Was Bullied As A Child

By on October 14, 2012

Many stars have stepped up and admitted that they were victims of bullies back in the day, yet not many have stated how they found a happy discovery during those dark days until now. Liam Payne from One Direction recently opened up about being bullied by a few kids older than himself, in which he declined to give details about his experience with bullies. However, he did share on how he overcame it with a healthy choice that helped make him feel more powerful than his bullies. He chose boxing! He shared that he felt if he could beat his much older coach, then he was ready for anything thrown at him. Here is his full quote in terms of being bullied and moving onwards from it.

I was bullied by a few people who were much older than me, I went to camp to learn boxing. I was 12, and my coach was 24. I felt like if I could fight him, I could stand up to anyone

It doesn’t sound like you would want to find yourself in a boxing ring with him! As for a way to cope and deal with the vicious bullies, it seemed rather odd but it turned out to be powerful experience. Liam Payne implied that he found solace with a tough sport that isn’t easy, but gave him important life skills and most of all, his power back. Perhaps as time goes on Liam will go into more detail or release his own video on how to cope with your own bullies. Until then, we can all relate with Liam about the pain and horror of being bullied.

Did you know this before, cause I certainly didn’t. I am happy that he found a safe outlet that provided him with the help he needed at the time. While I am sure most parents would not want a risky sport or training to be that comfort for their kids, he does show an important lesson that you can fight back without exchanging nasty words or worse. He choose his own path that helped to build the Liam that the fans all across the world love right now. So in his case, the bullies might have helped him out in the long run and are likely mad at themselves now for not being his friend back then.
