Nardwuar vs. Carly Rae Jepsen Premieres on i am OTHER

Pharrell Williams recently officially announced his launch of his newest creative venture the i am OTHER YouTube channel. Williams describes the new endeavor as “a cultural movement dedicated to Thinkers, Innovators and Outcasts.” The new channel is a part of Google’s initiative to create channels with original programming. 

The channel’s line-up already includes the critically acclaimed web series Awkward Black Girl, exclusive interviews from eccentric music journalist Nardwuar, new fan favorite Stereotypes and exclusive videos from Williams about everything from music to food. The channel will also feature significant viewer participation. Creative minds will have the opportunity to interact with Williams within a community of self-defined OTHERS.

Pharrell Williams commented on the new channel saying,

“The idea for i am OTHER really came from the fans. They often say I inspired them to think outside the box and I wanted to establish a creative collective which represents that same philosophy. I believe individuality is the new wealth and I am dedicated to creating and supporting projects that encourage originality.”

i am OTHER programing includes themes on the pursuit of individuality, the defiance of expectations, and the arrival of a new class of visionaries. He aims to celebrate creative pursuits of all kinds including the fields of global culture, music, fashion, and the arts.

Shows now airing on the channel include the cult sensation Awkward Black Girl from filmmaker Issa Rae. The Stanford graduate created the scripted comedy to test her theory that “we’re all awkward.”

Rae, creator and star of Awkward Black Girl, said,

“We are so thrilled and excited to be a part of the i am OTHER family! I initially created this series because I didn’t feel represented on “mainstream” TV. We decided it was best to keep Awkward Black Girl on the web for a second season because we wanted executives and fans to understand that you can be “Awkward” and “OTHER” without having to compromise. Joining the i am OTHER family is truly a perfect match because from day one they GOT IT.”

Singer/songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen also appeared on i am OTHER to talk about her love of The Bangles and sprucing up her record collection in the new installment of Nardwuar vs. Carly Rae Jepsen premiering today on Pharrell’s i am OTHER.  Check out the new episode below:
