Olympic Closing Ceremonies Boost One Direction Download Sales Up
Just when One Direction thought their year couldn’t get any better, the boys faced a huge jump in sales after their Olympic performance. What Makes You Beautiful sat at the 30th spot on the US iTunes Top 100 songs chart, which then climbed to the 18th spot on the chart after their segment aired. While they weren’t the only closing ceremony acts that had a boost in sales, they are the only one that had the huge boost. The boys haven’t addressed the nice sales increase, but we can guess that it was welcomed by them.
I am glad that the boys had a nice sales increase, even if it was a temporary one. I think most singers or bands would embrace that, regardless how long it last. Plus they clearly haven’t been hurting this year at all. They were forced to release the summer 2013 tour dates early thanks to the 2012 tickets selling out, so that just proves that this tiny increase isn’t the best part of their year. I am sure they cannot wait to release new material and see how that does on the iTunes charts. That is what they are likely waiting for, perhaps even more so now that they saw the increase thanks to the Olympics.
How do you feel about this news? Does One Direction need these sales increases or are the humbers really worth reporting? I suppose I could see how some might feel as if it isn’t a big deal since the charts do fluctuate, but for them to have a sizeable jump, then yes it is news. However, I doubt that will be the last of the One Direction chart climbing news for a while. They are reportedly lined up for a few more shows before the year is up, so I am sure they will be back to climbing the charts again in no time.
