Disney Hires Hunger Games Director Gary Ross For Peter and the Starcatchers Film

By on August 22, 2012

Gary Ross will forever be remembered as the original Hunger Games director, but he now is attached to a whole new big project! Disney has hired him to do the film adaptation of Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson’s Peter and the Starcatchers, a book that is supposed to provide a back story to Peter Pan. The book has been turned into a musical on Broadway and has had a great run, so Disney has decided to take it on for a future movie. No word on when the movie will start production or when they plan to release it, but with Gary’s help it is sure to be a hit on the screen.

I am excited that he has a new project to work on. I felt bad that he was no longer tied to the Hunger Games franchise. I felt like he did a good job as anyone could do in a book to movie adaptation, so I was sad over the news. But I am happy to see that he is heading to another big project. I am sure he will do an equally amazing job on it as he did with the Hunger Games, he is known for his talents and I cannot wait to see what he does with it.

How do you like this news? Is Gary good enough to be attached to this Disney project? I think so, he knows how to keep adults interested as well as the targeted ages for the movies, which takes a real talent. But I can see how some might feel that he might be a risk on Disney’s end. He did receive a lot of flack from people even though Hunger Games did so well, so I can see how some could wonder how it will reflect on Disney to have him attached to the movie.
