Darren Criss & Victoria Beckham In Fashion Night Out PSA
Fashion’s Night Out is almost on us and they decided to release a PSA. They hired <em>Glee’s Darren Criss to sing while other stars like Usher, Justin Bieber and Victoria Beckham. The PSA is to help raise awareness of AIDS, which appears to be their cause for the event. The night kicks off on September 6th for those who wish to find local events out and about to attend. As for the PSA, you can catch the finished product down at the bottom of this post.
I am glad that they adopted an important cause, but I am not sure what the PSA is supposed to do for it. It isn’t like drunk driving or texting while driving, it has a much wider area and that could be tough to use a PSA for. While I do support it, I think print ads and even flyers that can be handed out would have a wider angle to help. Just a PSA doesn’t help when everyone uses DVRs and can skip TV spots. It just feels like a waste of money for something that won’t have as wide of a reach as they wish for it to have. At least that is how I feel about it. If it was me I would have done more to create a wider PR plan ahead of the day.
How do you like the PSA? Should they do more in order to raise awareness or am I the only one who feels that way? It doesn’t feel like they are trying to reach out more to the point of beyond TV PSAs. I would think online and print campaigns would help do that job and not be as high priced as a TV spot. Let us be honest, TV spots and PSAs cannot be cheap when you consider all the star power and production is needed to film one. However, it seems like with print media going away and ad blockers now, TV PSAs might be the only real chance they have to spread the word.

Did you even watch that video? Justin Bieber is in it, so is Taylor Swift, so is Usher. Those are definitely stars.
