Amazon Joins Social Gaming Industry With Living Classics

By on August 11, 2012

Amazon is trying to stay competitive in today’s market, which includes joining social media and games! They just launched their internal game developer called Amazon Game Studios and they also just released their first game, Living Classics. The game is a social one that is on Facebook, much like Zynga’s games and other social game developers creations. Amazon stated that they know their customers enjoy casual games, which they felt that they could address with a free social game. That is where Living Classics come into play. The current speculation is that Amazon is planning to launch game apps for the Android and Kindle Fire stores. Right now all Amazon has released info was on the launch of the new division and game so far. You can view the trailer for the game down below.

I am excited to see they plan to all do with the new division. I can only assume that they will be working hard to release state of the art games and apps, something for everyone but with a focus on casual gamers. I won’t sit here and say that I think they will release epic games for gamers, but I do think that we can expect a few games that will please some hardcore players. But that will be more out of sheer luck than planning, unless they do plan to expand onto console games. That would certainly be a twist that could help liven up some things in the gaming world.

Is this a smart move on Amazon’s half? I think it could be, but I think in order to have even wider success they will need to publish their games for the iOS world as well. That will either make or break this for them, unless the Kindle Fire becomes more popular than it is today. However, with that being said, I do feel like we can support them on this issue. I don’t see how they could go wrong with this as of right now.
