Yahoo’s New CEO Claims She Will Work Through Maternity Leave

Marissa Mayer, former Google executive, just joined Yahoo as their new CEO. Yahoo just introduced her on Monday and shortly after that, it was announced that Mayer was expecting. Apparently she told them the news of her pregnancy before the final job offer and they were okay with it.
Mayer told Fortune magazine “They showed their evolved thinking.” Even more interesting is that she plans to work throughout most of the pregnancy and take only a few weeks off. Is this a sign that America’s corporate industry is changing the way the treat pregnant women or is this just one company? This news is actually quite refreshing considering the recent rise of pregnancy discrimination cases.
This is great that Mayer can work throughout most of her pregnancy, especially if it’s an option that works for her family but I doubt that this will catch on for most women. I think most people want to take some extra time off if it’s offered by their company while many others may take an extended break or opt to become stay-at-home moms.
What do you think of Marissa Mayer’s post-pregnancy plans? Do you think it will catch on or inspire other women to opt out of extended maternity leave?
