Philip Seymour Hoffman Officially Heads To Catching Fire
More casting news for the upcoming sequel has been released with Lionsgate officially announcing that esteemed actor Philip Seymour Hoffman has been cast as Plutarch Heavensbee, the Head Gamemaker for the 75th Hunger Games. Catching Fire is based on the novel of the same name, acting as a sequel to the novel, The Hunger Games, from author Suzanne Collins.
Catching Fire follows the aftermath of Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark both being named victors of the Hunger Games. They begin their “Victor’s Tour” throughout the districts. Along the way, a rebellion has begun forming and the Capitol and President Snow are none too happy. And with Seneca Crane gone, a new Head Gamemaker takes the challenge.
Hoffman recently appeared as Willy Loman in the revival of the play “Death of a Salesman,” for which Hoffman was nominated for a Tony Award. He will also be appearing in Paul Thomas Anderson’s “The Master” and the indie film “A Late Quartet” alongside Catherine Keener and Christopher Walken.
While the first film was directed by Gary Ross, he has since dropped out. Catching Fire will be directed by Francis Lawrence and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. The main cast, featuring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson and Elizabeth Banks have all been confirmed to return.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will hit theaters on November 22, 2013.
