Mariah Carey Joins American Idol Judging Table

By on July 25, 2012

Mariah Carey is following Britney Spears and Demi Lovato by becoming a judge, but not for The X-Factor. She signed on to become a judge on American Idol, setting up to be the replacement for Jennifer Lopez and Paula Abdul. She was rumored to be one of their topic picks and despite people assuming that if they could not afford J. Lo than how can they afford Mimi? The good news is that they can! She inked the deal today and released this exciting statement about her new gig, despite the possibility of the need to fill the other seat and possibility Randy Jackson’s as well.

As a singer, songwriter and producer, it’s going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back with American Idol… I can’t wait to channel my creative energy as a part of this show which is a massive global phenomenon

I am a fan of Mariah’s and I am sure she will do an amazing job. I won’t deny and say that I am not surprised by her signing on to the gig, but it is so nice to hear that she will be on the next season. I think she will be able to give insight more than others now that she has been in the industry for over 20 years. I hope Randy will keep his seat now, since they both have a close friendship and have worked together before. I think it would be a lot of fun for both of them. Now the question remains if Miley Cyrus or Adam Lambert will sign on to be judges next. They both are rumored to be in the running, so it could be possible.

How do you feel about this news? I think Jennifer must be mad since Mariah is earning more than her and she is even beating out the earnings that Demi & Britney are making. It is a pretty big deal to say at the least, but I suppose with someone like Mariah’s star power, they find it worth it. I hope the show won’t be sued by Jennifer now. I mean, it isn’t fair per se, but I can see why they might make the exception to someone like Mariah who is one of the best selling female singers out there. She is a pretty big deal to have when you compare her to Jennifer, who has always been a shadow of Mariah more or less. Do you think Mariah can save the show or not?
