Amanda Plummer Joins Catching Fire Cast

Lionsgate has made an official announcement regarding one of the Catching Fire characters! Amanda Plummer will play Wiress in the movie. This may not be the official announcement we all have been hoping for, especially regarding Finnick or Johanna, but it is a good start and proves that they are working on casting right now. The movie won’t start filming until next year likely and it won’t be released until November 2013. It is a far time away, but we can look forward to seeing Amanda play the wacky character of Wiress in the on-screen adaption of The Hunger Games sequel.

I am pleased to see that they are making official progress. Earlier this spring they weren’t even doing that, so it is a step in the right direction to end rumors. However, I do think the roles of Finnick and Johanna will be one of the last announcements that they will make in terms of casting for the sequel. That way people cannot try to fight it and have to accept whoever they do cast. It is a smart move to a degree. I am sure we all can say that we are dying to know more, even now more so since they have officially started pre-production for it!

Do you agree with Amanda playing Wiress? I am not so sure. She could be a great choice, but I think it will really depend on who the full cast will be. Just her role alone cannot make or break it for me. I am eager to see how she does, but I do feel like within reason we do not have to worry too much. Amanda does have a pretty impressive resume, like Pulp Fiction. So she clearly knows what she is doing, but I also think we don’t know how well she will thrive in this very different kind of story than what she is most famous for.

   Are you kidding me? Plummer as Wiress is nothing short of GENIUS. She plays eccentric and slightly (OK, way beyond slightly) nuts like nobody else. I am so stoked to see her in this role!
