Zynga Announces FarmVille 2

Zynga has taken over the world of online games and apps, including the ever popular FarmVille. But as it with regular software, apps and video games, technology changes to the point that new games have to be released. So they just announced that FarmVille 2 is on its way! The new version will be a more advance and better edition of the original game that took over lives and Facebook equally. While no release date was given, we can expect Zynga to release more social games which will include more upgraded -ville games as well. However, FarmVille 2 is the first new edition of their previous games that was announced recently.

I know a lot of people are like, “what?!?”, over this news. But I don’t think this is anymore strange than when Nintendo releases a new Mario game. They are no different in terms that they want to make more money. We have no idea what the new FarmVille 2 will have, but I am sure they will find a way to make it worth more money for them than the original did. Is it fair? It’s not any different than anyone one else trying to make a buck. I personally see social gamers as a very different gaming group than the hardcore ones are. So I really see no harm in releasing the second edition of a traditional video game.

How do you feel about this news? Do you play social games? I’ve tried them out, but in the end I did not find them rewarding as much as a traditional one is. Will I try the new one once it is released? Yes, but I doubt that I will fall in love with it. I do think they have their place and can be a lot of fun, but they certainly not the best gaming experience out there. Even with better graphics and animations, I just don’t see how it can be the next big thing to compete with the likes of Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft. They still have a long way to come before that and I am sure that I am not the only person who feels that way either.
