The Avengers Battle Battleship At Box Officie

By on May 22, 2012

Rihanna’s movie Battleship lost opening weekend to The Avengers. The Disney project has stayed at #1 spot for 3 weeks straight now, which should help offset John Carter loss. Best of all, it has become the highest earning movie ever for Walt Disney Studios. It earned over $1.18 billion that also ranks in as the 4th highest earning movie ever. For this weekend, it earned $55.6 million, while Battleship only earned $25.5 million. The Dictator sits at third spot, Dark Shadows sits at 4th and What To Expect When You’re Expecting is in fifth place.

Disney can sign now to know that they have a new hit. No doubt, sequels will follow through for sure, since they do seem to be needing huge hits to make up for their massive losses in the last year. However, it could also be a sign of what we can expect for The Dark Knight Rises and The Amazing Spider-Man later on this summer. It could certainly be a year of superheroes by the looks of it. However, I still doubt that any of them will be able to top off The Hunger Games?

How do you feel about this? I have yet to see The Avengers? I want to see it but I am surprised that Battleship sank. I thought for sure it would do decent, which I guess in a way it did. But when you compare it to The Avengers, their earnings are much smaller. It seems like Rihanna might be dealing with the same fate that many other pop stars have-which is flopped Hollywood careers. At least Disney can be pleased with the results and enjoy rolling in all this loot. It doesn’t seem to happen too often, so they should enjoy it while they can. I doubt the current trend is changing in their favor at all!
