Robert Pattinson: I Joined Twilight For Kristen Stewart
Robert Pattinson was at Cannes Film Festival last week promoting his own movie and he went with his girlfriend Kristen Stewart. So when asked about her and his hit franchise, he admitted that she is the reason he took the role. As he previously has stated before, he only tried out due to Kristen. He goes a bit more into detail about it in the video interview, where he also points out that she had a promising career before Twilight. He then switches gears and talks about critics, who haven’t always been kind to him. You can find the insightful interview down at the bottom of this post if you are curious to find out what he all had to say about the topics.
I am glad that he seems to be happy with where he is in terms of his career. That means a lot and he knows that he has a following who will support him no matter what. In a lot of ways though, I do think he would have been just as happy without Twilight as he is with it. It seems like the cast and himself are tired of the franchise. Plus with all the critical acclaim that they earned, it only makes new roles that much more scary. So far I don’t think he has picked any wrong roles. But they are more mature or darker than what we are used to seeing. I suppose that could partly be why the critics are so harsh, they are used to seeing him as Edward and Edward only. That has to be hard shoes to fill in.
How do you feel about his comments? I agree with him as a whole, the movie is what made them go big into the industry-but it isn’t where their talent only shines through. They are talented and the world knows that, so it was only a matter of time before they were discovered. However, they do have to admit that the Twilight Franchise they wouldn’t have had some of the amazing things happen to them like they have had. That movie franchise put them on top and that will likely help them build up to even bigger roles that they may not have had access to otherwise. It is more about who you know and who knows you, than what can you bring to the table in Hollywood. So in a way, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart do owe a lot to Summit Entertainment.

He is absolutely right that he is held to a much higher standard by the critics because of his unexpected and incredible success and fame from The Twilight Saga films. It really isn’t fair to him.
