Tell us about you brand new single, “On Ya.”
“ON YA” is fun, dancey pop song about loving the life you live. People are always jealous about what their friends have or what they don’t have, and it’s about celebrating the present and being grateful for what you do have. *wink wink* We can’t always control what comes to us in life, so it’s just super important to soak up the moment and always make the most out of it.
What was the best part about working with Sean Kingston for the single?
Sean is a total blast to work with. He has really open, positive energy and is the kind of person you can just laugh and have a good time with. I’m so happy we had the opportunity to collaborate on this song.
Where do you draw inspiration from for your music?
Where don’t I draw inspiration may be the better question! My pet tiger always inspires me. All the yummy boyz out there also drive me. The truth is I try to always convey a social message in my music and combine that with a splash of humor. I think humor is a direct way to reach an audience and talk to them about something more serious. It’s almost like there’s subliminal social messages embedded into my pop songs.
If you could pick one musician to work with, who would it be?
Just one? I’d love to collaborate with Kanye right now. He’s just so original and always taking risks. I also really love Skrillex, Eminem, Dead Mouse…is that a good start?
Does your upcoming album, “I’m In Hate With Love” have an overall theme within the songs?
Well when I started writing the album I was thinking a lot about the state of love today. With over 50% of marriages ending in divorce, and people more afraid of monogamy than ever, I got to really thinking about where has the love gone. It seems like we’re living in a selfish time. The me me me time. The me me me time where self love trumps loving another. I’m still a total romantic and believe in the power of love though, and my album is a testament to that.
You also worked on a few episodes of the show “Weeds,” what was the best part of that experience?
Working on Weeds was just a total blast. I had a steamy sex scene where I whipped out a strap on and intimidated the hell out of Justin Kirk’s character. That was certainly a good time. Nothing like being the woman in charge..
Which do you prefer doing more, acting or music?
It’s funny because people always ask me that, and then I ask myself that, and then I decide that there’s no answer to that question. I love to sing. I love creating music. I love playing deeply compelling roles in movies and tv.
We have a cereal review site as well and we wanted to know, what is YOUR favorite breakfast cereal?
Fruit Loops! So many colors in one bowl.
