ICE AGE 4: Continental Drift l The 4-D Experience at The San Diego Zoo
The world famous San Diego Zoo has partnered up with Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products and SimeEx-Iwerks to unveil the new Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs – The 4-D Experience. This new attraction takes the world and fun of Ice Age that we all love and brings it directly to the viewer. By combining 3-D film elements from the third film in the franchise with an array of synchronized physical elements, fans can experience first hand that snowy world of Ice Age.
Jeffrey Godsick, president of Fox Consumer Products, said:
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to see this amazing attraction debut in the U.S. after a strong premiere in Europe. The San Diego Zoo is the ideal location. Ice Age is the biggest animated family film franchise in the world and by establishing a home at one of the country’s top family destinations we’re allowing fans to immerse themselves with their favorite characters in all-new ways.”
Nickelodeon fans will also hear a familiar voice. Actress Keke Palmer voices Peaches, a young wooly mammoth appearing in the upcoming fourth installment, Ice Age: Continental Drift. She will also be there for the opening of the ride, joining San Diego Zoo Director of Operations Bob Dillon and Elephant keeper Ron Ringer.
The theater is adjacent to the 7.5-acre Elephant Odyssey, home to Peaches’ descendants and more than 35 species of animals. Asian elephants meander a 2.5-acre exhibit that includes a 137,000-gallon pool, gentle rolling hills, hidden drinkers and feeders to entice foraging, and the half-acre Conrad Prebys Elephant Care Center.
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs – The 4-D experience is a 14-minute thrill ride that features many of our favorite sub-zero heroes including Manny, Ellie and Diego. We will venture into a mysterious underground world after Sid the Sloth stumbles across three abandoned eggs and decided he must raise them as his own. However, the adventure begins when the eggs hatch and you are plunged into the lost world of dinosaurs. In jaw-dropping 3-D, the film features an all-star voice cast that includes Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary and Queen Latifah.
The attraction first opened at Alton Towers in the United Kingdom and Gardaland in Italy – the number one theme park resorts in their respective territories. This is the first time the attraction will appear in the U.S.
The Ice Age franchise has made over $4 billion in the box office, home entertainment, and product sales. It continues to be a hit among young children and seasoned fans of the series. The ride debut comes just in time to celebrate the release of the first Ice Age television holiday special, Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas airing in November, and the fourth installment of the film series, Ice Age: Continental Drift, in theaters in 3-D July 2012.
In the new film, fans will follow Scrat’s nutty pursuit of the cursed acorn, which he’s been after since the dawn of time, with world-changing consequences – a continental cataclysm that triggers the greatest adventure of all for Manny, Diego and Sid. In the wake of these upheavals, Sid reunites with his cantankerous Granny and the herd encounter a ragtag menagerie of seafaring pirates determined to stop them from returning home. The film features a returning cast voiced by John Leguizamo, Ray Romano, Seann William Scott, Queen Latifah and Denis Leary, along with new characters voiced by Jennifer Lopez, Wanda Sykes, Keke Palmer, Aziz Ansari, Peter Dinklage and Drake, among others.
