Hunger Games Heads To China

By on May 8, 2012

The Hunger Games has been given the green light to come out in June for China. The mega-hit movie has opened worldwide for the most part, but as with any media, China had to review it before public release. Lionsgate was happy about the good news and released this statement for the movie that will feature subtitles since it was filmed in English.

We’re thrilled that we can now share the exciting first installment of The Hunger Games franchise with Chinese moviegoers, China is already one of the leading territories at the international box office, and the launch of The Hunger Games in this key market is another sign of the franchise’s continuing emergence as a truly global phenomenon.

I am pleased to see that they finally get to see this movie. It was an amazing production and while it wasn’t perfect, no movie is, we should focus on the good side here. I do hope that they will be able to see the upcoming sequels as well. However, I won’t deny that I am not so sure how well it be received in China. It may also depend on how much promotion they will do for the movie.

Are you surprised that they gave it the green light? I was a tiny bit, but to be fair I am not sure what kind of movies are usually released there anyways. Either way, I am happy for them that they can experience this great story. It clearly is one of the few movies that can teach a message while entertaining the masses. China will be able to see what the hype of all about and hopefully will have a huge box office earnings like they had elsewhere. I am sure that is what Lionsgate is hoping for and I certainly cannot blame them for that at all.
