Could Kristen Stewart Play Johanna in Catching Fire? – Our Thoughts
The character of Johanna in the Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire has yet to be cast, and we began wondering, what if an actress already familiar with fame that comes with movie, as well as someone who has been in a franchise already. Could Kristen Stewart play the part?
The role of Johanna Mason will be a tough one to fill.
She is sarcastic and mean-spirited. Johanna’s first meeting with Katniss involves her stripping out of her tree costume in order to make Katniss uncomfortable.
She reveals that she has no friends or family in District 7, stating “there is no one left I care about.” She won her original Hunger Games by pretending she was a weakling and a coward, so no one regarded her as a threat, but when only a few tributes remained, she revealed herself as a vicious killer.
Johanna teams up with Katniss, Peeta, and Finnick in the Quarter Quell, bringing Beetee and Wiress with her, because that was the only way to ally with Katniss. Katniss describes her presence as being akin to having an older sister who hates you. Johanna takes part in the committee to keep Katniss and Peeta alive, and helps by protecting Katniss throughout the Games. Near the end of Catching Fire she removes the tracker in Katniss’ arm by cutting it out with a knife.
Johanna is captured by the Capitol at the end of Catching Fire.
Could Kirsten play the role of the hardened, sarcastic and sometimes mean District 7 tribute/victor?
Note: I am assuming who plays the role in Catching Fire will play it as well in Mockingjay.
First let me just say, Twilight and The Hunger Games are not remotely similar in my opinion. Moving forward, there is only one reason I think Kristen could possibly play the role. She could be mean. She always has that scowl on her face, and she always looks angry. Kind of the way I pictured Johanna when she is just walking around District 13. Always frowning.
I also think that she could do the sarcastic persona well. And because she played a weak woman in Twilight, she could trick people in the Arena to thinking she is weak.
The reasons I don’t think she could? Well she is incredibly pale. Not how I imagine Johanna. She is also really skinny and frail looking. She would not be able to wield an axe comfortably or believably. I feel like even if she did the training Jennifer Lawrence, she wouldn’t look natural. She is in the new Snow White film, where she is a warrior, but based on the previews she still seems kind of delicate. However, I reserve my right to change my mind on her frailness after seeing Snow White, her performance in that film might just surprise me.
I also have a really hard time seeing her all frail and pale and skinny, overpowering Lawrence in any capacity.
The biggest problem is she does not have the acting chops Lawrence does. I feel she might be a bit out-of-place in the film.
Damon: This is one of those ones that is tough to even imagine. I mean could you think about how crazy it would be to bring the powers of the Twilight Fans together with The Hunger Games fans? It might be as big as Robert Pattinson being in Harry Potter and Twilight. Anyway now let’s talk about the fact if she could actually pull it off. Yeah we know schedule wise it probably won’t happen but let’s pretend it can.
I think she is probably one of the best choices here because we know she can play the warrior from that Snow White and the Huntsman movie so that part is taken care of. I can see her pulling off the mean older sister as well even though I have never seen her personally play that type of role. The biggest issue we have here is Kristen Stewart is already a much bigger star and this is like taking backseat to Jennifer. Would she be willing to do that? I don’t know that puts her in an interesting position for future movies I would think. But back in our dream world where that sort of thing doesn’t matter, I can totally see Kristen Stewart pulling this role off and she would bring two HUGE fandoms together for eternity.

It could be… She can do that but let see what does the director think or what does the cast think about what does johanna in real life need to have

I think she could do it, I’m not a massive kristen Stewart fan but when I imagine Johanna, she is who I think of. Apparently she’s doing action scenes in her snow white movie, and she would get along well with the main cast (she’s already friends with josh and has emailed Jennifer, and She knows Liam through Chris hemsworth) so I wouldn’t be completely opposed to the idea

LOL You call yourself a journalist? “there is only one reason I think Kristen could possibly play the role. She could be mean. She always has that scowl on her face, and she always looks angry. Kind of the way I pictured Johanna when she is just walking around District 13. Always frowning.

Really??? she’s ALWAYS frowning ? ALWAYS in a bad moon? ALWAYS this ALWAYS that??? Bullsh*t. All you are doing is perpetuating the hate and unfair generalizations about this young woman. Shame on you. I suggest you read Ashley Judd’s latest op-ed http://popwatch.ew.com/2012/04/10/ashley-judd-puffy-face/. Oh and for every picture of Kristen not smiling I can find 10 where she is. It’s the media’s choice to choose certain photos to bolster their misogynistic arguments and support their hate of Kristen http://www.thefablife.com/2011-04-05/who-says-she-doesnt-smile-21-pics-of-kristen-grinnin/. Lastly Bella Swan was a strong character IMO. This 18-year-old agrees and sees what so many of you ignorant jerks cannot: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/renee-dushane/bella-swan-a-strong-femal_b_1387637.html

No…interesting idea, but ultimately no for a couple reasons that have already been mentioned. Kristen is still way too close to the whole Twilight thing (the films will only be ending this November so, that would vershadow her part in the film) also, again, Stewart, while an interesting actress, simply does not have the same raw talent that Jennifer Lawrence has (how many other actresses their age have been compared to a young Marlon Brando as Lawrence has been compared) Lawrence would overpower Stewart. The role of Johanna Mason must be played by an actress who can give a fierce performance; someone who could hold their own with Jennifer Lawrence because Johanna is almost as fierce as Katniss.

Don’t you have anything better to write about? You are trying to play casting director and in the process are slamming down Kristen Stewart in your hopes that she should play 2nd fiddle to Jennifer. This is simply mean and totally something that a bully would do. Why do you need to do this to Kristen who has led her life pursuing her dreams and has never said an unkind word to any of her ow actors.

This is an opinion piece and I believe I said that I would have a hard time in seeing her playing a lesser role to Jennifer because of how big of a star she is (Kristen). I think she could pull if off in a grand way personally.

Bill Condon mentioned at one point that when Kristen was being considered to play Superman’s girlfriend that she does not want to play the role of the girlfriend, she wants to play a role of a super hero. Having said this, what makes you clowns think that she would even in your wildest dreams consider the role of Johanna to add to het resume. LEAVE HER ALONE!!!! You can all bow dowm and worship Jennifet L if this makes u happy but DO NOT put Kristen down hoping that this will elevate Jennifer’s position. Both of them are amazing actors in their own rights and loved by their fans.

I think Kristen could play any role that she puts her mind to it. It’s sad so many people think of her as being a bad actress….I LOVE her. I’ve watched her in several and she always plays the part that she has been given. I also cannot think of a better actress to play such a high-profile part/movie, she is used to the spotlight and knows when to speak and not. Go team Kristen!!!!!

Really? Why would Kristen lower herself to an HG role? Way too much talent to waste there. Does HG trilogy need to cast Kristen to up the ante and drama a serious audience? LOL!!!!!! They couldn’t possibly pay her enough. She would outshine that Jennifer chick in a heartbeat. Wishful thinking on HG franchise part, but like I said…..Kristen don’t lower your standards. Eat that.

If she does she seems she won’t overpower Jennifer. Johanna is a really strong character, I don’t think she will seem good. Sorry Team Kristen

The studio has already said no one who was in a twilight film will be in a Hunger Games film.

YOu know I never thought of Milla thats another good suggestion and I think she is great. I don’t know though, how much older is she really in the book again? Milla might be a little too old.

PLEASE NO! Don’t let Kristen ruin an amazing series with her bad acting and ugliness
