Calvin Johnson Wins Madden 2013 Cover
EA has announced that Calvin Johnson of the Detroit Lions has won the cover of the upcoming game Madden NFL 2013. He beat out another top pick, Cam Newton, who was expected to win. The announcement was made at Time Square. Cam turned out to be upset, while Calvin is reportedly not bothered by winning. The actual game can be placed on pre-order for the August 28th release. Amazon and other fine retailers that sell video games should have it available for pre-order at this stage.
I am glad to see that Calvin won the vote. I think this is a huge thing for him, even if some feel as if it is a risk for his team. I do think that it is a nice that he didn’t try to swing votes by saying something that made him seem too sure of himself. It only makes him that much more likable in my eyes. I hope we can see more of him and for him to find more success with his career. Hopefully that will happen since his name will be more out there now than ever before. It is only a matter of time before the actual artwork will be released and we will get to see the winning cover soon enough.
How do you feel about the choice? Do you think Calvin will fall into the same trap that past winners have? I hope not, but anything is possible. One thing that I do think will happen is that he may become signed on to promote other products. Since his face will be everywhere, he could do a lot of good for brands who want someone to help support their products. He would be a good option for those who want a big football player to promote their product. However, he likely has to wait until his fame reaches a certain level first.
