Second Draft for Catching Fire Screen Play Is Almost Done
The Hunger Games may not come out until the 23rd of March, but Catching Fire is almost ready to start filming. The second draft is about to be sent to Suzanne Collins for approval. In meantime the screenwriters for it, Simon Beaufoy talked to E! News about why movies don’t stay 100% true to the novel. He had an interesting point of view, which you will find in his quote down below.
Things always do have to change otherwise there’s always something very flat about very faithful adaptations. But on the other hand, there’s an extremely loyal fan base and readership and you just have to be careful of how many liberties you do take. So fortunately Suzanne is here to help me. She’s reading this draft at the moment and she’ll tell me, ‘You can’t do that. You must do this.’ Because there are some things that are sacrosanct to her readers and she knows them very well and she’ll let me know
Well, it does sound like they are heading towards that November 22, 2013 release date like they hope. I do like how he addressed that movies are never fully true to the books. It does shed some light, even though I do disagree with him on that for the most part. I have seen several movies based off books that did not include some of the most juicy stuff in it. So I do think that it has to do with other reasons as well.
Are you excited for the sequel? It sounds exciting, but I want to see how true the first one will be to the book. Then I think we can gauge how close the sequel will be true to the original or not. I do feel as if that plays an important role in if a movie will be as good as they hope or not. What do you guys think?
