Taylor Swift Loses Out Les Miserables Role To Unknown Actress

Feb - 02 2012 | Lainey DeeKay | 7 comments

Rumors had been swirling that Taylor Swift had been offered the role of Eponine in the upcoming new feature film adaptation Les Miserables.  But it is now it has been confirmed that British actress Samantha Banks will be playing the coveted role.

The news of the casting was broken by the movie producer, Cameron Mackintosh on the official Les Miserables Twitter page on Wednesday.  This is certainly a surprise seeing as how the film is  teeming with big names such as Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, and Russel Crowe to name a few in director Tom Hooper’s version of the long-running musical.  In 2010 Samantha starred as Eponine in the London production of Les Miserables and reprised the role alongside Nick Jonas in the 25th Anniversary concert at the O2 Arena last year.  Samantha has had very little film experience and had spent the last 15 weeks auditioning and screen testing for the role.  She has managed to beat out rivals of Scarlett Johansson, Lea Michele, Taylor Swift and Evan Rachel Wood.

Taylor Swift has not made any comments yet about the news.  Filming for the movie sets to start next month with a release date set for Decemeber of this year.  Hooper’s previous film, The King’s Speech, has made a transition in the opposite direction to Les Misérables.   What do you think?

Thank goodness. No offense to Ms, Swift, but she doesn’t have the pipes to play Eponine.

There is always just 1 Carrie Underwood fan that goes on all of Taylor Swifts story’s to post over and over again using other names the same thing! Now is the time to go after Carrie please as she has a new album coming out! This has been going on for 2 years now the same guy! Thanks!

  3. Bill says:

Carrie Underware is a HAZ BIN and has to try and act in B movies! lol Carrie can not Carry Taylor’s shoes for her!

  4. Scott says:

What does Carrie Underwood have to do with this story?

  5. Shirl says:

This article has nothing to do with Carrie Underwood. Besides you can’t compare the two different type of singing voices. I didn’t see how Taylor could carry that type of singing that is needed for that role. She can’t hit high notes and she has yet to learn how to breathe while singing her own songs. Maybe a role will come along that she can handle.

Taylor just sang for 1,400,000 fans in 2011. 92 concerts. Did not notice one bad review from anyone that actually went to her shows. Did you? Carrie and Taylor as both great and like listening to their music better than many others.

    • Scott says:

Matt: No one said she’s a terrible singer, just that she is in no way up to singing in Les Miserables, especially as Eponine–a difficult part in an already vocally challenging play.

And your example is specious; what is her fan base? Do they have discriminating musical tastes and want to hear great singers, or are they teenage girls going to see a pretty, charismatic girl who doesn’t embarrass herself on stage?

And as far as you “not notic[ing] one bad review”… did you look? Because I just googled it and found plenty within a few seconds.
