Super Bowl Has Become The Most Watched TV Show in History

This year’s Super Bowl XLVI showed the New York Giants won over the New England Patriots. There were roughly 111.3 million viewers and that just barely capped last year’s which had 111 million viewers. For the seventh straight year, the Super Bowl ratings expanded in popularity. It was recorded that last year’s Super Bowl XLV had the most views of all telecast in American television history. The year before that in 2010, the Super Bowl made the record for the biggest US TV watching audience at 106.5 million. It even topped the 106 million viewer record of the 1983 MASH finale.

The after game celebrations and interviews seemed to some as shortened. NBC gave a big springboard to “The Voice’s” return. The singing-talent show won a 16.3 rating and had 37.6 million viewers. It was the highest rated entertainment program in six years.

The popularity of the Super Bowl is amazing. Is it the advertisements, the talent-show, or the football game that attracts the audience? Or could it be the time spent together with families and friends? This year’s halftime show included a performance by Madonna, so that might have had something to do with it. With American lives running at full speed and not much time for anything else, I think the Super Bowl’s appeal is family and friend time well spent.

The facts are in error, and trying to get it corrected in the media is like chasing a runaway train. MASH had 125 million viewers for the final episode. I have the AP newspaper stories to prove it. So MASH is still unbeaten.

  2. TPR says:

3.2 billion people watched the world cup final.
