Hunger Games Parental Rating & New Poster Unveiled

The Hunger Games has released a new promo poster showing Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss and they also unveiled the official parental rating. The new poster shows Katniss doing what she is best at, archery. It also promotes the movie that will be shown in IMAX at select theaters. As for the rating, they gave it a PG-13; even after a couple a weeks ago, Lionsgate stated that they were not rated yet. It does appear their first guess was correct. You will be able to see it in theaters starting on March 23rd.

I have to say, I don’t see why so many people are shocked about the PG-13 rating. I think that it seems fitting when you know the story. Fighting til death isn’t something that would be considered as G or PG. We all know that a lot of the family movies today are rated PG at the very least, and this movie is more for teens and above. So the rating seems to fit it in my opinion.

Do you like the new poster and how do you feel about the rating? The poster does a good job and I love the editing done on it. The light sets the tone of the movie perfectly. It is a shame that their official poster isn’t as shadowy as this one. It really makes me that much more excited for the movie since it shows that it isn’t a happy or cheery tale at all.

Another article I read wondered how The Hunger Games was going to manage not to be rated R as there is so much violence in the story – and especially as children are killed, often brutally. I was expecting PG-13 as this is not a story for younger children – but as it is largely aimed at the teen market I figured Lionsgate would make sure it didn’t get rated R as they would then lose their target audience.

I <3 it and I totally agree on the rating! I'm so glad that it wasn't rated R because that would just take the whole teen experience away.

I’m SO HAPPY! I’m only 15 and love these books! With an R rating, I wouldn’t be able to see this movie. R ratings are for high sex, language, and non-stop violence. There’s violence in the Hunger Games, but everything else is pretty much mild, so we’re good!
