Disney Wants To Make Plans For John Carter Sequel

By on February 18, 2012

Disney is planning to make a sequel to its first movie, “John Carter.” This current movie will be released on March 9th, 2012. It has been claimed that a script for the sequel has been written by Andrew Stanton and is possibly titled “John Carter: The Gods of Mars.” There are reports that there will be a trilogy based on Edgar Rice Burrough’s novels.

Some people from “Deadline” are saying “John Carter might be the biggest write-off of all time. This theory is based on early box office tracking results that quotes an annonymous non-Disney studio executive as claiming that “women of all ages have flat out rejected ” the film. The movie’s original title was shortened from “John Carter of Mars” to “John Carter so that it would appeal to younger female moviegoers. Disney is down playing that a “John Carter” sequel is a fantasy. People who have seen the movie, “John Carter” say “the movie is a lot of fun.”

I would think the movie, “John Carter” and any sequels will do well with science fiction fans. Disney usually makes popular movies so why wouldn’t this series of Edgar Rice Burrough’s stories not make money? Could these rumors be sour grapes?
