This year, LL Cool J will host the 5th Annual Grammy Awards. He will be the first host in a long time. The last host was Queen Latifah and that was back in 2005. The Grammy’s enjoyed a host-less format for the past seven years.

LL Cool J said in a statement. “I’m thrilled to be part of music’s biggest night. I will always have fond memories in my first Grammy Awards and now to be hosting the Grammy show, in the company of so many other incredible artists, is a dream come true.” He has won two Grammy Awards in the past. He also hosted the live nominations concert since 2008. This year’s show will be a live live event on February 18, 2012 at 8:00 central time on CBS. There will be performances from Kelly Clarkson, Foo Fighters, Adele, Bruno Mars, and Taylor Swift.

The Grammy Awards were first given out in 1958. Some of the first entertainers to be awarded a Grammy were Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, and Tony Bennett. There were some orchestras with instrumentals who won a Grammy award. These were Percy Faith and Henry Mancini. In 1967, the Beatles were awarded a Grammy for the album,”Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club.” The music industry has changed since 1958. Who would have dreamed of the kinds of music that are out there?
