Hunger Games Reaches USA Today’s Best Seller List

By on January 2, 2012

USA Today has listed Suzanne Collin’s The Hunger Games as #1 in their best selling list. This is just one of many lists that the series or debut book has made it. USA Today also reported that the sequels have also made it on their best selling list, but do not appear to be in the top 5. Here is what they had to say about the book series finally making it in their list long at last.

The perfect alignment of the gift-giving season and anticipation for The Hunger Games movie is boosting sales for Suzanne Collins’ popular young-adult trilogy. The first book, The Hunger Games, reaches No. 1 on USA TODAY’s Best-Selling Books list for the first time (its previous peak was No. 2, on Sept. 29). Catching Fire is No. 7, Mockingjay is No. 8, and the boxed set is No. 27.

“As strongly as The Hunger Games trilogy has been selling all year, it’s been amazing to see how many new readers continue to discover the books every day through word-of-mouth recommendations, holiday gifts, and the incredible buzz for the upcoming movie,” says Scholastic’s Ellie Berger.

I am happy to see that the series is still getting all of this media attention. I am sure it has partly to do with the fact that the movie has gained a lot of media airplay. Nevertheless, I like to think that people enjoy reading a good book series regardless of Hollywood status or at least that is what I am hoping to be the case for this series.

Are you happy that they finally made it on this list? Or do you think that it doesn’t really prove anything? I don’t feel like it proves anything, but it is another nice honor for them to have. It does say that they have a wide range of fans who adore them and gives us a good idea about if the movie will sell or not.
