The Walt Disney Pictures film is set to arrive in theaters March 9th 2012 with the movies soundtrack will hit stores on March 6, 2012.  John Carter is a science fiction film features the heroic John Carter the main protagonist of Edgar Rice Burroughs 11-volume Barsoom series.  The movie stars Friday Night Lights actor Taylor Kitsch in the lead role.  In the film John Carter is a former Confederate captain who is transported to Mars.  When he gets to Mars he is drawn into a conflict between the various nations of the planet.  He learns that the planet is dying from the loss of its atmosphere and water, and that only a peaceful alliance of its intelligent inhabitants can save the species of Barsoom from extinction.  Carter decides to take it upon himself to save Barsoom and its people.  The film is directed by Andrew Stanton and is also written by Andrew Stanton, Mark Andrews, and Michael Chabon.

This movie is set to to be released in 3D and IMAX 3D formats.  The novel was originally published as a magazine serial in 1912 and then brought to book format in 1917.  What do you think of the movie poster?
