Disney Looking to Matterhorn for Next Movie Franchise

Disney has decided to going back to their amusement rides as a source of inspiration for their next movie franchise. While there is no news yet on if they’ll be heading back to the animation drawing board there is another ride ready to be adapted to the big screen.

According to Deadline Disney is readying a “Untitled Explorers Project” have been inspired by its own ‘Matterhorn’ ride.  The ride which is a tubular steel roller coaster which was built in 1959 meant to mimic the look and feel of the majestic and infamous Swiss Alps.  While there is no real definitive script there have been rumours surrounding what the plot may be.  Rumours are that a group of young adventurers each a specialist in a specific ‘extreme’ sport, like skiing, snowboarding or mountaineering set out together to ascend one of Earth’s greatest remaining untouched peaks.

It is expected the project is to be starting soon with a potential release date of Christmas 2013.  Meanwhile, reports are that a director has been found to helm the project.  Brian Beletic is onboard to make the Mouse House’s Matterhorn movie his feature-length directorial debut, based on a script by Jason Dean Hall.  What do you think of there being a Matterhorn movie?
