Ross Lynch & Laura Marano’s Austin & Ally – Secrets and Songbooks Review
Austin & Ally is a show that happens to be based on kids working in the entertainment industry, a popular pick that many of Disney’s past shows have taken on. However, they do keep it cute and funny, and their latest episode called “Secrets & Songbooks” is a prime example of that. Ally’s secret book is lost and she has no idea where it is. Austin, Dez and Trish don’t know why she is so upset, but she explains that it has personal details she does not want known. This causes Dez and Austin to be curious, so they seek it out and read it. However, they were not ready for what they read. They then freak out thinking they know the truth, when in reality she likes someone else who is similar to the boys. Of course, Ally learns of this and takes matters in her own hands with Trish. They also debuted a new song called “Not a Love Song”, which they wrote for Austin’s big performance for a local Miami show.
I will say that I found the show more aimed for younger groups, but it was something that I think older fans could like. We all can relate to Ally and her need of privacy, but at the same time, we all have wanted to read someone else’s diary. So it is a good mixture of something we can all relate with, even if it is a tad silly. I will say that I do like that they kept it funny, but at the same time, it has what I consider as a positive message. It teaches that you do not typically learn the truth about someone via “gossip”. Like when Austin saw that he had a crush on a guy named after a city in Texas. Which I think so many more of us still need to learn. But they do it in a way that makes it fun to watch. I suppose that is partly why Disney has done so well with their original series.
How do you like Austin & Allyso far? It is pretty cute, but I am hoping the some of the next episodes grow in what they offer. It could be that this episode was not their strongest for me, but I am hoping that the story lines grow. Some shows that first start off shaky do and with this being the third episode, I do think their upcoming story lines could become stronger. However, I still do think this show has a place, and I am eager to see what they do next with it.
