Disney Turns Marvel’s Avengers To A 3D Film

“The Avengers” was originally supposed to be shown in 2D but now it will be released in 3D when it comes out on May 4, 2012. There are more Disney 3D films to come out such as “Beauty and the Beast” and “Nemo.” The Marvel film, Columbia Picture’s “The Amazing Spider-Man,” will be in 3D when it is released on July 3, 2012.

This movie was directed by Joss Whedon(the screen writer for X-Men, Thor, and 90s teen cult series Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and will star well-known actors including Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner , Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr, Mark Ruffalo, and Tom Hiddleston as Loki.

I think taking traditional movies and tweaking them into 3D films is odd. If a movie can’t stand alone on its own merit, then gimmicks won’t help long term. Maybe at first it is a curiosity and people will go see it. But after so many movies, people will get satiated with 3D. I can think of old silent, black and white movies that are still viewed with enthusiasm. Some of these old movies are “Intolerance” (1916), “The Gold Rush”(1925), and The Great Train Robbery”(1903).
