David Archuleta Postpones Music Career to Go On Mormon Mission
David Archuleta will be taking a break from his music career to embark on a two-year Mormon mission.
The 20 year old singer made the announcement at the Salt Lake City, Utah stop on his My Kind of Christmas tour. You can check out the video below of David’s announcement at the concert the American Idol runner up announcement to the crowd. The audience cheered for the singer, and he immediately got emotional before going on to explain why he felt the mission was so important. “It’s not because someone told me I was supposed to do it and not because I no longer want to do music anymore,” he said. “It’s because it’s what I feel I need to do next in my life.” Latter Day Saints missionaries are unpaid and must follow a strict set of rules. The missionaries must adhere to a strict dress code and have a set daily schedule.
They also are generally allowed two phone calls per year — a call to their family on Christmas Day and Mother’s Day. Guys are allowed to go after their 19th birthdays, while girls can go after they turn 21. There are currently 50,000 missionaries serving in over countries all over the world. I’m proud of David for never playing the star card, sticking to his values, and always following his conscience and heart. I’m happy for him and at the same time I am sad he will be away from us.
David should be a role model for people. He didn’t let stardom and fame get to him and stuck to his values.
David was on temple square a while ago, and there was a huge media blitz about it. They mentioned his age, and I thought, “Hm, I wonder if he is going to use his “fame” as his mission call….” I am glad he didn’t. When he returns he will be wiser, and a bit more mature, but he is going to receive more blessings than he will know what to do with. If he thought this musical fame has brought amazing blessings, just wait to see what the Father has in store….
I wonder where they will be able to send him where paparazi won’t get in the way? Greenland, here he comes!!!!!
