Investors Fret Over Nintendo’s Wii U
Nintendo has a lot of pressure on them to produce a huge follow up to the original Wii. Their next follow up console is called Wii U. The console has been talked about a lot, despite it won’t come out until 2012. It made its official debut at the E3. Investors have not been thrilled with the new console, yet many have hopes that it will pull Nintendo out of the slump they are in. It will feature a unique controller, which looks like a tablet than controller. The new controller supports game play, even when the TV is off. It features a 6.2-inch touch screen and will be backwards compatible with the Wii and its peripherals. No word on an actual release date or price as of yet.
I have to agree with the investors and business experts on this, I am not sure how this will go. They are clearly trying to step away from what is typical in gaming and that has not helped them. If they wanted to create a tablet, they should do it as its own stand alone product. Otherwise, it is too much of a risk that might back fire. However, I am very curious to see what the console will be like. Beyond the controller, it sounds like they are still pretty focused on motion games and that is not any different from the original.
Are you excited for the Wii U? Like I said before, I am certainly curious about it. I wonder how much it will really differ from the original and I do wish we knew more about the games that will come out with it. If you don’t know about the games, how will you know if you want to buy it? The hardware has to be good, but it is the software that depends on making or breaking it.

Eurgh enough of these short sighted, ignorant articles.. Nintendo have made one time losses in 30 years. The losses are mainly from high R&D costs, and marketing for a new handheld which is also doing fantastic (selling almost as fast as the original ds in its first 9 months). The world economy hasnt helped matter’s along with a strong yen and nearly 80% of nintendo’s business coming from outside of japan. One time losses doesnt mean nintendo are in a slump or in trouble either.
Before the DS, and Wii these “business experts” believed that the gaming market was shrinking, and appealing to a much smaller audience. Nintendo then release the DS which changed the whole handheld market, and the wii is easily the most successful console in the last 5+ years and both brought a whole new audience to the gaming market.
Nintendo is not focusing on motion control, it is offering the best of both with its new console and 3rd party developers have been giving nothing but praise towards the console. Most of these 3rd party developers didnt have any interest in developing for nintendo on the wii. This imo would represent a sure sign that nintendo are heading in the right direction with this console and that should help ease the anxiety of investors.
we know EA main franchises will be coming, batman arkham city, metro 2033, ninja gaiden, SSBB, mario, zelda, mario kart, metroid etc.. lots of other rumours too.
It makes sense that nintendo want to do well in the holiday season with the 3ds, ds and wii. This means we will be getting no more updates or news from nintendo relating to wii u.
Nintendo is not herting wright now in fact thay are doing real well and every one rather thay want to by it or not thay are still interested if the graphics are hi then pepole will by it don’t matter and thay don’t have to be the hiest eather just better than Xbox360 and PS4 the tablet is the most interesting thing to me and why i am bying it and its beter than haveing the same thing over and over those shear holders should shut there mouths and not bite the hand that feeds them
I can’t wait for full specs to be announced. Only then i shall judge the system. There are rumors that should be worrying for all Nintendo fans. Those like: no HDD, no DVD playback, only one controller per console, short controller’s battery life, lack of first party games for grown ups (we all know Ninty exclusives are kids orientated). My personal big fear so far is that most games developers will give all attention to the controller rather than game play itself. Instead of getting most of the machines power, gamers will most likely get motion control based average looking games. I was really excited about Wii U when rumors about Battlefield 3 started, but idiots who are behind the game decided to come up with some innovative ideas of controlling the game and finally admitted that game will not come to Wii U, because they can’t think of anything unique. as if gamers would bother about stupid innovation. What a disappointment proving that innovation will screw things up yet again for Nintendo fans. Time will show though
again please do a bit of research, watch video’s, listen to actual 3rd party developers talk about the wii u.
HDD, is not an issue as wii u supports usb storage expansion, which has been announced.. i would much rather buy my own external hard drive rather than an more expensive and smaller storage offical one. One thing i wont miss is dvd play back, which hasnt featured for nintendo since GC (except the limited edition / japan models). It isnt one controller per console its 1 tablet controller, which nintendo are researching into if its possible to add more, or using your 3ds as a controller aswell.
The next part is rubbish, nintendo’s first party franchises are not aimed at children but everyone. Just because it hasnt got an M rating, or extreme violence doesnt make it a game for children. Some of the best games in recent years have been nintendo first party games, mario galaxy 1&2, along with xenoblade chronicles, and soon to be released skyward sword (already 9/10, 10/10 reviews).
Yes developers are looking into the new controller and thinking of how they can use it. Most of the simple ways has been swapping weapons faster using the touch screen, mini map on the controller, inventory, another camera angle from that of the screen (awesome). The motion aspect is more likely to feature in family games doesnt mean that every game will use it. Looking into unique ways of using the controller will not effect visuals at all, unless you swap the full game onto the small screen.
Dice have said its unlikely battlefield 3 will feature but EA has said they want it on wii u but only time will tell (if its a choice between ea and dice.. EA wins). LoL of course gamers care about innovation, thats why wii sold 90m consoles, years later xbox and playstation release kinect (sold over 10m) and move.
Sony have been looking into 3D gaming which again is innovation, just like BLU RAY was innovation.. innovation and gaming go hand in hand.
Nintendo never said that only one tablet controller would work, only that they saw no need for more than one, some post E3 interviews said that it already supported two of them.
I agree with what you said about good games, there is no reason that a game needs an mature or even a teen (us’s esrb) to appeal to adults, someone who is mature can appreciate a good game regardless of it’s more extreme adult content, or rather lack there of.
The innovations that Nintendo shows has not screwed anything up for us Nintendo fans. The innovation is why we love Nintendo. Personally I could careless about games that have violence and garbage like that, and I know plenty of people over the age of 20 who prefer having a more light hearted experience and a different variety of games rather than the constant first person shooter games that keep coming on the market right now.
“They are clearly trying to step away from what is typical in gaming and that has not helped them”
So the DS hurt them? Motion controls hurt them? LOL! Get a life or do better research. DS is very close to stealing the title of best selling system ever. Oh and Wii, it sold like hotcakes at launch. Innovation has done Nintendo quite a bit of good.
Oh, this is my favorite part of the article. “If they wanted to create a tablet, they should do it as its own stand alone product. Otherwise, it is too much of a risk that might back fire.”
What risk? Innovating? Yeah, because that REALLY hurt Nintendo. Just because they’re in competition with Apple, that doesn’t mean they should copy them. That’s doing a Sony. Heck, Apple hasn’t even proven that it can be an actual game company. What do they have? Angry Birds? Apple please.
I believe that comment comes from the fact innovating in a certain direction too early has hurt them in the past. This comes from the perception that the tablet controller will end up being expensive, but everything points to it being a dump terminal for the most part more expensive than your typical controller yet it should represent very little of console’s total cost.
