Howie D Debut Album, Back To Me – Review
Back To Me, the debut solo album by Backstreet Boy, Howie D was officially released. I was lucky enough to get an advance copy for review, and have to admit was super excited to review the album. I ended up loving this album for a variety of reasons, but mainly because the songs were so well written and put together. I had actually listened to a couple of the tracks previously as they were being released and I also did an interview with Howie a few months ago, so I had been looking forward to this album for quite some time.
The album is incredibly upbeat, even from the beginning. I originally listened to it at work, and it kept me in a pretty good mood. I don’t normally listen to the style of this album but I found myself really digging it as the day went on.
I have to agree that releasing “100” as his first single was a good mood. It is one of the best songs on the album and has the power to reel you in. While listening in the comfort of my own home, I turned this song wayyyyyy up and really enjoyed it. Like I said, this is an exceptionally upbeat album.
I, however, usually dig the ballads and softer songs when it comes to an artist. I like things that are little more soulful and personal. Because of the predisposition, my favorite song on the album ended up being “Sleepwalking.” I really thought that it was a sweet song. When a song can cause me to feel something emotionally, I know that it is a great song!
Another song that I really enjoyed was called “Shatterproof,” which I think is track five on the album. I definitely think this is going to be one of the next hits out there. I think this has great radio quality and will be one of the next hot songs about love. I personally hope this will be his next single.
“You thought you were shatterproof, but I threw myself right into you. Prepare to crash, because I can’t wait.”
“Stay” was the other song that caught my attention as I was listening at work. This is definitely one of his soulful ballads that I love. It is definitely obvious that he spent a lot of time on this particular song. I get the sense from everyone of his songs that they are uniquely personal. Being personal in your songs is what makes a great artist and I think Howie definitely knows what he is doing.
As you probably can tell from my review, many of his songs from this album are about love. Do I think this is cliché? No! (And here is why) There is no such thing as to many love songs, when they are genuine and from the heart. I think Howie does a great job capturing those emotions and while a lot of his songs are about love, they are still al unique with a different story being told in them. I have to say, I enjoyed the album, and I recommend buying it.
