Gossip Girl

Hulu is expanding in the wake of Netflix price hike. CW has agreed to allow Hulu to air their shows Gossip Girl and The Vampire Diaries. Their contract allows for streaming rights for the next 5 years. They will be allowed to show both shows on the paid and free versions. Here are the details.

Hulu Plus will get the newest episodes on the day after they premier on the network. Next the CW will get them 3 days after their debut. Then 8 days after the broadcast, the free edition of Hulu will finally have them to air. CW has also recently agreed that all of the past seasons can be shown on Netflix, as well. This is a change of pace since CW has always shown their shows exclusively through their website or network. They did not state why they have agreed to do this, but many fans around the board should be delighted.

I am happy that they are doing that, but I do think they should first go on CW’s website. It makes me wonder what kind of deal Hulu gave them? I also suspect that a lot more networks will be making similar announcements shortly. Web based TV seems to be doing extremely well and while it still has catch up to do, I have no doubt that it will be a huge player on people watch TV even more so in the future.
