Toddlers & Tiaras In Trouble Over Pretty Woman Costume

The Parents Television Council (PTC) is on a new mission with The Learning Channel’s (TLC) hit series, Toddlers and Tiaras. This past week’s episode featured a 3 year-old named Paisley dressed as Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman<.em>. Her costume was based on the streetwalker scenes from the popular movie for the Hollywood themed part of the pageant. However, this ruffled a few people’s feathers over TLC giving glory. The PTC had these strong words to say about the show.

We have a serious problem when The Learning Channel features a toddler, who probably hasn’t even learned to read, dressed as a prostitute showing off her sexy strut.

There’s no question, TV executives are complicit in robbing these small kids of their childhood.

The little girl’s mom of course defended her choice and says TLC chose to ignore the so-called classier take but that probably not calm down the parents. The outrage from parents even started before the actual episode aired. Most kids on the show have raised the eyebrows of parents since the show premiered. You will find a video all about the clip and the outcry.

While the goal of the PTC and parents around the nation is likely to end the series, I doubt that will be the case. All of this fresh media attention will likely cause more people to tune into next week’s episode. I don’t agree with these parents on the show and I do think pageants do more harm than good-but this show also shows us what errors are in our culture. Maybe these parents will start becoming more aware of these issues now. That would be the best result, but I doubt that will happen. What do you think about this brouhaha?

    That is an absolutely disgusting show that I will NEVER watch. I can just imagine how many molesters are getting off on this show. How sick! The parents of these poor girls are terrible and just sad. This show is a disgrace

    I find this show disgusting. As the mother of a young girl, it disturbs me that parents think out is appropriate. I cannot even fathom dressing my little girl like a prostitute and slathering her face with makeup I wouldn’t be caught dead in. These parents should be ashamed of themselves for sexually exploiting their children. TLC should be ashamed of airing such a show.

    What is the value of this show anyway? These parents spend thousands of dollars dressing their daughters up so that a panel of vacuous individuals can ‘judge’ them… what a crock. Parents spend quality time with your kids, appreciate them for who they are not what they can bestowe upon you the parents.

    This show is exploiting little girls. This mom may not see what she’s doing wrong but we as citizens can certainly get through to the network. Please call and write TLC and tell them you don’t want their child smut on the air any more. This show is absolutely harmful to the little girls on the show and all girls in general. Please take a stand since these mothers won’t. TLC says on their website that they are currently casting. I say we flood their casting e-mail (ToddlersTiarasCasting@authentictv.com) and let them know their show exploits young girls and we will not tolerate it any more. Please forward that e-mail to others to do the same.

    I think this show is so creepy. Pagents are fine when your older but at that young age its weird and inappropriate.
    I really dont like it, and i dont ever plan to watch it.
