Cassie Is Bound By The Circle – THE SECRET CIRCLE Review

The Secret Circle‘s second episode shows us the true colors of the coven once again. Cassie has found her mother’s secret book and read it, despite the fact that she didn’t want to be involved in the circle. Faye is still trying to threaten her to prevent the circle from forming so she can keep her own powers. Cassie learns that in order to prevent what happened to their families from happening again, she must bind the circle. While dealing with Faye’s drama, Cassie also has to contend with her attraction to Adam. She tries to avoid him, but fates keeps bringing them together. Adam’s girlfriend starts wondering about his relationship with Cassie, and Diana wants them to bind their power together more than ever, in order to prevent bad things from happening.

Faye’s grandfather comes back after realizing that the original group was using the younger generation for their powers. They begin working on their way to reclaim their power, and all the while Cassie is learning to how to cope with her mom’s death and her own newfound power. Discovering how that power can affect her when she needs or wants something intensifies her desire not to be involved. She knows that she needs to bind the circle, but can she get past the fact that she does not want to be a witch?

This episode was not as good as it could have been. I wish that the show would cut down on the romance between Adam and Cassie, because they put more effort into that than the real drama. Maybe the actors are at fault, because those scenes seem so fake. I wish that the actors played the characters better than they do.

I do like Cassie’s struggle with her new knowledge–I just wish that she was more willing to fight it than agree with it. Her acceptance makes the show way too slow at times and also predictable. They need more suspense. I just hope that this improves in the third episode, because “Bound” was just not a great episode. Hopefully it was just a growing pain, since I do think the show has promise—but better writers or actors are needed to boost it into greatness.

What do you think about the show? I am hoping that they pick up their pace. It needs to be more than just another love story like The Vampire Diaries. They need to flesh the world out more and to keep up the suspense. The story right now is way too easy to predict to keep the audience watching it in the future.
