Shel Silverstein returns with “Everything on It.” Sheldon Alan “Shel” Silverstein was an American poet, singer, songwriter, musician, composer, cartoonist, screenwriter and author of childrens books. He called himself Uncle Shelby in his childrens books. He died on May 10, 1999. Silverstein’s poems live on in “Every Thing on It.”

Sometimes publishing material by a deceased author is taking a chance. It can dash expectations of fans if a work is inferior which could be the reason it has never been published. The book. “Every Thing on It” was selected from material Silverstein liked but never had a place for in his other collections. The book was highlighted Sunday in the “Los Angeles Times” with a new work by Dr. Seuss. Silverstein’s book has his signature illustrations in the book. New readers will like the book, “Every Thing on It” and it may take parents back to when they first read “The Giving Tree.”

I think Shel Silverstein has a light, laughing touch in his poems. There are other levels of meaning for children. Silverstein was so talented. It sounds like there wasn’t much that he couldn’t do. Maybe there will be a new generation of children who will read and love Shel Silverstein books. Then his work will live on.
